An extraordinary general meeting of Akpakip Oro Elders Association has been slated for Thursday, March 24, 2016, where the present executive which has been in the saddle for over eight years would be dissolved.
The meeting which is said to be very crucial will among others important issues feature the election of new officers to pilot the affairs of the umbrella and apex organization of Oro for the next four years.
In a press release jointly signed by the outgoing president of the association, Col. Okon P. Essang (Rtd) and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Emmanuel Esifa indicates that the meeting will hold in the residence of the president on Thursday, March, 24 by 4pm.
According to the release, aside from the dissolution of the old executives and the election of the new officers, discussions will also put finishing touches on the association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to take place later in April this year.
The release then enjoined all members and intending ones to attend the Akpakip Oro Elders association as slated for No.9 Essangebianga Street, Oron so as to contribute ideas to move Akpakip Oro to an enviable level.
Meanwhile a founding executive member of Akpakip Oro Elders Association, an umbrella organization of prominent Oro sons and daughters above 50 years of age and have excelled in their varies professions and vocations, Chief Efretuei Nyong Inwang has vowed to assist tremendously in reinvigorating the association.
Chief Inwang who is eyeing the vice chairmanship position of the 10 years-old socio-political group says the association can no longer remain irrelevant in Oro nay Akwa Ibom political, economic, social and industrial project as envisaged by Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.
Other top contenders for this Thursday’s election include a legal luminary in the state and a former commissioner in Akwa Ibom executive council, Chief (Barr.) Anthony Ante – for President-General, Prince Edet Okon Uwe, a frontline educationist and retired college principal, for Secretary-General, Chief Edoho-ema, a retired director in Akwa Ibom State civil service, popularly referred to as “ Mr. Due Process” as treasurer, alongside chief Dr. Edwin A. Edwin, the proprietor of Royal Group of Schools, as well as the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of League of Veteran Journalists, Chief Emmanuel Etim Esifa as director of organization, media and publicity, among others.
Prospective and eligible voters during the election are strongly enjoined to come with their membership financial obligations in preparation of the association’s AGM slated for April this year.
