PDP Elders Forum  advocates clear vision, focus from Council Chairmanship Aspirants

With consultations, dialogue and behind the screen campaign heating up for the forthcoming local government polls in Akwa Ibom State, the Elders of ruling People Democratic Party have reaffirmed their resolve to throw their weight behind only credible, mature, focused, visionary and popular aspirants.

Besides, they have restated for the umpteenth time that those aspirants without acceptable pedigree, antecedents and proven membership of any cult group might not survive the rigorous screening which the Elders under the aegis of Udung Uko PDP Elders Forum would mount for the aspirants in the nearest future to “sieve the chaffs from the grains”.

Speaking on behalf of the Elders when one of the widely acclaimed foremost aspirant, Chief Okon Esin Oku paid a scheduled consultation parley to the Forum, the Chairman of Udung Uko PDP Elders Forum, Elder (Engr.) Asukwo Idung asserted gone were the days when political misfits and self-centre political office seeking were given the nod to contest elections without due tests of ability, inherent capability and adequate know-how and knitty gritty for such high caliber and service oriented offices.


Engr. Idung who charged the aspirant to play the game in accordance with rules of healthy politicking similar revealed that all the Elders in each of the ten wards in Udung Uko should be on their toes to access and grade the emerging aspirant with commendable track records however give assurance that the Elders Forum will always turn their searchlight for the best materials while a level playing ground would be placed at their disposal.

While introducing his principal, the coordinator general of Integrity Group, the campaign organization rooting for Elder Okon Esin Oku, Mr. Great Edemumoh described the aspirant as the best among equals in terms in terms of experience (having been the vice chairman of Udung Uko local government some decades ago) exposure, maturity, humility and above all extremely accommodating and transparent. 

Mr Edemumoh narrated the intimidating profile of Hon Okon Esin Oku to include, Caretaker Committee Member, Oron Local Government Council in charge of works – (1994 – 1996), Executive Vice Chairman, Udung Uko Local Government Council (1997 - 1998), Boarding member, Skill Development Centre, Udung Uko (2003 - 2004), Boarding Member, Akwa Ibom State Council for Arts and Culture, Uyo (2004 - 2007), Supervisor for Health, Udung Uko Local Government (2012), Member Transition Committee, Udung Uko Local Government (2015 till date).

Hon Oku was, aside from being Chairman, Local Government Election Committee for Udung Uko in 2012, is also noted to have been the Public Relation Officer of Oro Coalition for Udom Emmanuel Campaign Organization, as well as National Welfare Officer, Akwa Ibom Consolidation Alliance (ACA) for Udom Emmanuel / Moses Ekpo Divine Mandate Gubernatorial Polls.

When it was finally his turn to address the Udung Uko PDP Elders, Hon Oku went both spiritual and philosophical by declare, “My Elders, I’m ready to serve Udung Uko People, I come here to submit myself for that service through you my Elders. I need your blessing; I need your support and encouragement. I solicit your Elderly prayer to lift me to success. Let me return all thanks to the Creator and Supreme Being for using you my Elders to intervene as unique fathers to streamline the political terrain of Udung Uko. I am satisfied that you have received me and I promise I can’t afford  to fail you. So may it be.

Others who spoke well on, and positively attested to Hon Okon Esin Oku’s magnificent political carrier over the years for Udung Uko People included his former boss, Sir Joseph Inyang, a Knight of the Catholic Church who Hon Oku worked under when he (Inyang) was the Executive Chairman of Udung Uko Local Government Council (1997 - 1998), the Secretary General of Udung Uko PDP Elders Forum, Chief (Elder) Oyokunyi Idiokune, Mr Maurice Nsunware a highly revered opinion/community leader in Udung Uko, Elder Francis  Eyikang, an Udung Uko Political Veteran, Hon Atanang Osung – a Supervisor in Udung Uko Local Government Transition Committee, Chief Joseph Amba Aka, Amba Spain, Elder Jimmy Orok (MOW) a prominent grassroots politician in Udung Uko, Rt. Hon. Edeke E. Edeke a one-time leader of Udung Uko Local Government Legislative Council and the Chairman of League of Veteran Journalists Chief Emmanuel Esifa among others.
