The ongoing scheming and plots by the Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning, Uwem Ita Etuk against the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Onofiok Luke has been described by political pundits as a wild goose chase. The former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reports say has been engaging in subtle moves aimed at reinstalling his political godson, Hon. Aniekan Uko as the Speaker of the 6th Assembly.
Information at our disposal reveals that the Ibesikpo born politician is doing all within his capacity to thwart the tenure of Barr Onofiok Luke in favour of Aniekan Uko. THE INK gathered that both politicians had entered a pact to the effect that he (Aniekan Uko), upon his rerun success, will be returned as the Speaker irrespective of who occupies the said position.
It could be recalled that the Lands and Town planning man had allegedly sponsored media attacks on Hon. Onofiok Luke with the intention of painting the revered Ex NANs President in bad light before the public. But it appears the move proved futile as Speaker Onofiok Luke is waxing stronger especially with the massive support and solidarity that has being coming his way, notably from his party, the PDP where the Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo has thrown his weight behind the Nsit Ubium born politician, among other top political players across the state.
Speaking recently, the Etinan born politician reiterated the party’s support for Onofiok Luke adding that the same support enjoyed by Aniekan Uko during his short stint as Speaker is the same support that has been extended to the current Speaker. He warned detractors to steer clear of Hon Onofiok Luke, stressing that God’s ways are beyond human comprehension hence the Speaker should be allowed to be.
“The PDP in Akwa Ibom State is satisfied with the performance of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke. We are warning those who are throwing tantrums and trying to divide the State House of Assembly, to desist henceforth. The party was equally satisfied with the performance of Hon. Aniekan Uko during the brief period he piloted the affairs of the Assembly. You will agree with me that Aniekan Uko did very well and we are proud of him. God’s ways are beyond imagination and we should desist from distracting the House from its peaceful activities.
The House of Assembly has its own rules and procedures and nobody outside should attempt to cause unnecessary disharmony between two brothers who are worthy ambassadors of the party. I repeat, the party has no intention of interfering in the leadership of the House of Assembly, and Onofiok Luke remains the Speaker,” Obong Paul Ekpo stated.
