Misconduct/abuse of office: Aquila must go - Nigerian Students tell Gov. Udom

Student leaders in Akwa  Ibom State under the aegis of Organized Students Movement (OSM) has appealed to the state Governor Deacon Udom Emmanuel to immediately relief Comrade Aquila Otobong Akpan from her duties as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters over alleged incompetence and embezzlement of funds meant for student leaders in the state.

This was contained in a communiqué signed by various student leaders across the various higher institutions in the state.

The student leaders commended the governor for establishing industries that will help provide employment for students after graduation.

The students accused through the communiqué made available to THE INK reporter in Uyo, accused the Ini Local Government Area born student leader of siphoning Christmas gifts given to the student community by the State Governor during the last Christmas Celebration. 


The communiqué reads in part “Your Excellency, the student community was informed that you have sent to us an xmass package of cows, rice and money in 2016, but surprisingly, none of such packages was delivered to us. When we met Aquila, she denied knowledge and rather told us that it was her personal money that she used in purchasing those items”.

The group further blamed Miss. Aquila for the continuous problems that are facing Akwa Ibom Students presently and said that the Governor’s aide have resulted to the use of cultist to run student affairs in the state. 

“That we the Students leaders frown at Aquila’s constant mobilization of none Students to government functions. We however wonder whether the government of your Excellency is so much in love with cultists and what they represent, hence the appreciation of Aquila’s cultists. We wish to say here that we cannot be cultists and we cannot go and join cults because of Aquila.
But we are worried that the government of the day are worried that the government of the day rather chooses to patronize and appreciate cultists”.

The group informed pleaded with the state governor to immediately relief Miss Aquila of her appointment in order to have lasting peace in the student community in Akwa Ibom. They described her as a total failure to the entire student leaders in Akwa Ibom state and as such they cannot continue to recognize her as their leader since she has chosen to work with identified cultists instead of bonafide student leaders.

“And in view of the above fact, we are passing a vote of no confidence on Otobong Akpan. We hereby appeal to His Excellency to Sack Otobong Akpan now. We the Students leaders say we are tired of her irresponsibility”.
