The Uyo branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE), has called on the Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, to leverage on his well-deserved appointment and give Engineers in the state the much desired inclusiveness which had been lacking since the inception of the present administration.
The chairman of the branch, Engineer Mfon Udoikpong made the call in a congratulatory message to the new SSG.
Udoikpong said the appointment of the new SSG “could not have come at a better time than now, when the state is in dire need of industrialization and technological development, given your pedigree, strength of character and experience in public administration.
The NSE boss lauded Gov Udom Emmanuel for appointing one of its own as the State’s scribe and pledged their readiness to contribute their quota for the government to succeed.
The Ink learnt authoritatively that members of the NSE in the state have been crying for lack of patronage and inclusion in most of the much-touted construction projects of the Udom Emmanuel Administration.
It was learnt that apart from two indigenous engineering companies which the government has patronised, other firms have been in complete business lull even with their superlative and first-class expertise.
A member of the NSE, who preferred not to be named, said “but for the leadership of our body, we (engineers) in the state would have taken to the street, to show the world the state of affairs since the inception of this government.”
The source flayed: “For your information, the Procurement Act has specifically stated that jobs above N500 million are not supposed to be done without the services of consultants.”
