The chairman NMA AKS has appreciated the government of Akwa Ibom
State led by His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for giving doctors a
conducive atmosphere to operate as the foremost professional body in the state.
The association also commended the Commissioner for Health, Akwa Ibom State,
Dr. Dominic I. Ukpong for his supportive role in its various activities in
2017.
Speaking after a meeting with the NMA state officers committee,
Dr. Uwah applauded the strides made by government in 2017 which were geared
towards enhancing health care delivery in our state. Some of these he noted
included: the commissioning of the renovated and equipped Etinan General
Hospital, the ongoing renovations of General Hospital, Ikono and Ituk Mbang,
the training of Doctors and other health workers on emergency medical care and
the provision of new residential apartments for House Officers employed by the
state government and a lot more.
The association urged the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His
Excellency Deacon Udom Emmanuel, to move a step further by consolidating
on all these gains recorded by presenting the following New Year gifts to
Akwa Ibomites and indeed members of our association: assenting to the law for
the establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Primary Health Care Development Agency
that was passed into law by the AKHA 7 months ago, assenting to the Law for the
establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme Agency that was
passed into law by the AKHA 7 months ago, payment of the 14 months arrears of
salaries owed 61 of our members employed in September, 2014 and commencement of
the construction of a General Hospital in Uyo, to cater for the health needs of
the teeming populace in the most densely populated Local Government Area in
Akwa Ibom State.
Dr. Aniekeme Uwah who doubles as chairman NMA South South
assured the people of Akwa Ibom State of its avowed commitment to partner with
the government to enhance health care delivery and most especially continue to
strongly advocate for policies that will make health care delivery more
accessible, more affordable and more available to the people.
