LG CHAIRMEN PROTEST 1M TAKEOFF GRANT

LG CHAIRMEN PROTEST 1M TAKEOFF GRANT

Some Local Government Chairmen in Akwa Ibom state have protested the one million naira grant given to them by the state Government saying it is quite dehumanizing and an insult.

THE INK reporter gathered that these LG Chairmen are angry that the state government will have the mind to give them a paltry one million naira as takeoff grant when according to them, the system is fully aware of the enormous task ahead of them.

They insisted that they would have preferred being ignored by Udo Ekpenyong the commissioner for Local Government rather than the man giving each of them a million naira as take off grant.

Chairmen of Obot Akara, Mbo, Udung Uko who discussed the matter amongst themselves in a certain location in Uyo described the state government action as an act of selfishness, irresponsibility and insensitivity.
They noted that several appeals they made to Udo Ekpenyong fell on deaf ears as the man refused to step up the one million naira he granted them.

These chairmen noted also that if Udo Ekpenyong had even informed them that the funds is meant for their Xmas, that they would have been comfortable but that giving them a million naira each in the name of takeoff grant is quite insulting.

Efforts to speak with the LG commissioner on this matter proved abortive as Udo Ekpenyong could not be reached for his own story

.......more details on this subsequently
