Principals-General and teachers in the State who have refused to key into government programmes and policies have been advised to resign rather than sabotage government efforts.
The Permanent Secretary, State Secondary Education Board, Elder Akpan Solomon Akpan, who was on an unscheduled visit to schools in the rural areas, expressed disappointment with some Principals-General and teachers over their indifference to government programmes and policies.
Elder Akpan regretted that most school heads have not imbibed the state government’s Dakkada creed, which is aimed at the moral transformation, spiritual rebirth and re-orientation of the citizenry.
At the Comprehensive Secondary School, Ikot Esenam, Oruk Anam, where he applauded the Principal, Mr. Emmanuel Umoh for keeping the school environment beautiful and ensuring that most students have textbooks in key subject areas, the Permanent Secretary advised the students to shun social vices but rather make good use of available opportunities to become shining stars in the society.
The Senior Prefect (boys) of the school, Master Immortal Amos Thompson, on behalf of his colleagues, pledged to develop positive mindsets by imbibing the Dakkada message and learning to recite its creed.
At Community Secondary School, Ikot Osute, Oruk Anam, the Permanent Secretary addressed a cross section of the staff, acting village head and members of Parents-Teachers Association, and called for greater support for government programmes in order to attract more development projects to the community.
The Village Head, Mr. Akpan Ebong, who thanked the government for having interest in the school, said that the school was in poor state and lacked teachers in many subjects, and therefore appealed that government should assist in renovating the dilapidated classroom blocks and also post teachers to alleviate the situation .
Similarly, the Parent/Teacher Association Chairman of the school, Mr. Etete Udo Ekpo who expressed his happiness about the visit, pledged continued collaboration with the school management and the government for the progress of the school.
In another development, the Permanent secretary has frowned at principals- general who submit false enrollment figures to higher authorities, warning, that such defaulters will be severely sanctioned by the state Government.
The Permanent Secretary, Elder Akpan who was addressing zonal directors of education in his office directed them to immediately carry out audit check to determine all defaulting principals and teachers and report to him for appropriate disciplinary action.
Similarly, The Permanent Secretary, State Secondary education Board, Elder akpan Solomon Akpan has expressed dismay over the refusal by some principals of Public Secondary schools to release staff who have been transferred out of their schools, pointing out such disregard to official decision of the Board has resulted in distortion of records and deprived other schools of staff which the posting exercise was intended to address.
He also directed the zonal directors to immediately prepare Last Pay Certificates to teachers who are affected in the last transfer exercise.
Elder Akpan directed the zonal directors to summon meetings with principals in their zones to address issues of security and sanitation, saying that the two issues should be accorded top priority for the well –being of the school occupants.
The Permanent Secretary who urged the zonal directors to redouble their efforts by intensifying on monitoring which is their primary responsibility, called for synergy between them and the school principals for proper implementation of government programs and policies.
He appealed to the zonal directors to address the difficulties some principals were experiencing in utilizing subventions due to handing over process.
