A’Ibom to grow economy

The State government is ready to build a viable economy with a view to enhancing its revenue base, thereby complementing the monthly statutory Federal allocation. 

The Commissioner of Economic Development, Dr. Emmanuel Ating Onwioduokit while fielding questions on a live interview programme on AKBC, Unveiling the Mandate, observed that Akwa Ibom has the capacity to sustain itself once the requisite machineries and structures were put in place, adding that the policy thrust  and strategy of Governor Udom Emmanuel on industrialization, would put the state on a sound economic footing.

To achieve a rapid growth of the economy, Dr. Onwioduokit disclosed that government will engage in meaningful partnership with the private sector, in line with global best practices.


Emphasizing the need for competence and productivity to putting effective leadership in place in all sectors, the Commissioner said the State government plans to reposition the Civil Service, as the engine room of government.

  He, however, proffered a reward system for those who perform exceptionally in order to motivate and challenge others to emulate their productive colleagues.

Dr. Onwioduokit unveiled plans by his Ministry to develop the Gross Domestic Product data for Akwa Ibom State to help ascertain its size, composition and other variables.
