Wife of the Governor and founder of Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Programme (FEYReP), Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel and a cross section of Akwa Ibom people hit the streets of Uyo on a road walk to sensitize the girl-child on the need to uphold her dignity.
During the colourful event, which had women and youths turn out enmass and geared in FEYReP’s attire, the Governor’s wife admonished young girls in the state to keep away from bad company and abstain from all forms of sexual vices which could endanger their future . According to her, “abstinence is the only sure way for girls to avoid being victims of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.”
Noting that empowerment will guarantee the future of the girl-child and make the society a better place, she reiterated her commitment to economically empower the womenfolk through mental and emotional reorientation.
Earlier, the Coordinator of FEYReP, Mrs. Ime Ephraim Inyang stated that female children were the future mothers and therefore, pertinent that they be fully knowledgeable of who they are, and the need to ensure that they live out their purpose as individuals.
Stating that the road walk was a ploy to sensitize the public on the need to protect the girl-child, she charged girls to uphold their dignities and shun sexual immoralities in order to achieve success in life.
The Coordinator expressed her sincere appreciation to ‘Mama FEYReP’ , Mrs Martha Emmanuel for her show of benevolence, love and care for female children in the state.
The FEYReP’s awareness walk began from the Ibom Hall Grounds through Aka Road and came to a rousing close at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.
Similarly, the Governor’s wife and initatior of Family Empowerment and Youth Re-orientation Programme (FEYReP), Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel has charged students in the state to shun cultism, drug abuse, prostitution and sexual violence.
Mrs. Udom, who attended the International Students’ Day held at Emerald Event Hall, Four Lanes, Uyo, enjoined them to abide by the admonition because such will guarantee them a successful future and fulfilment of purpose in life.
In continuation of spreading mental awareness, emotional and re-orientation concept and in her unwavering support for youth empowerment, the state First Lady reiterated the need for the students to abstain from pre-marital sex and other vices.
The commemoration of the 2015 International Students’ Day was a glamourous one as pupils and students from primary through tertiary schools came in their numbers to mark the annual event. Executive members of various associations, student unions and groups, each representing their fellow students and schools were present at the event.
