Udom inspires Akwa to historic Federation Cup victory
In fulfilment of his campaign promise to inspire the state teams to wins trophies, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel over the weekend recorded his first major sporting victory as Akwa United thrashed Lobi Stars of Makurdi by two goals to one to win to lift the Federation Cup in Lagos. 

The Promise Keepers defeated twice in one week to secure their first major trophy since the establishment of the club about two decades ago. 
Defender Nnamso Edo opened the scoring for Akwa United in the 37th minute with a superb strike from a free kick near the penalty box before Abdulafeez Awakan doubled scores with a fabulous strike on the edge of the box.

Lobi Stars’s Barnabas Imenga however reduced the tally on the stroke of full time but that was not enough to deny the Akwa Ibom side to bag their first ever professional title.

The victory confirms Governor Udom Emmanuel’s investments and commitment to sports development in Akwa Ibom State. Earlier on Wednesday, the Governor hosted players and officials of the team and urged them to go for victory. 

The Governor said he make Akwa a team to beat and make the state a destination for sports in the country, through provision of quality infrastructure that will aid efficient man power development and capacity building in the field of sports.

Governor Emmanuel noted that the state government has reached a deal with Julius Berger PLC that will see to the collaboration and establishment of an International Sports Academy. 

Fans who spoke at the Teslim Balogun Stadium attributed the victory to the commitment of the governor to man power development and the luck his personality attracts.

Etop Solomon, an Akwa Ibom indigene based in Lagos said Governor Udom Emmanuel is a natural winner and that his tenure as Governor will attract more victories for the state.
