Staff of the ministry of Agriculture, Akwa Ibom State, have risen in solidarity and support of the present commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Mattew Ekaette, who assumed duties barely six (6) months ago.
In a statement issued at the end of their enlarge meeting over the weekend, the workers, comprising of the junior and senior, noted that, although, they were not trying to pass judgment or cast aspiration on previous leadership in the ministry, it was necessary to give kudos to their boss who in the past months, has done us proud by initiating Agricultural programmes which hitherto were not known.
The entire staff in an interview further told newsmen that the recent claims in some quarters which tried to distract the Commissioner, was unwarranted, null, and void.
“Here is a man, who on assumption of office called on various segments of the farmers and other agricultural oriented workers to liaise with his office for discussions that will enhanced their productivity to improve on their yields. It is a pity that we are still yet to appreciate certain talents God has bestowed on us. The Commissioner is a masses oriented person and he also loves to listen to complaints and proffer solutions” they noted.
The stafftake a very strong exception to the recent media assessment of the servant leader commissioner who has not hidden his prowess to serve the state in his present position and calling.
The body described Dr. Ekaette as one of the best choices of the present administration which embraces excellent, relationship as well as performance in governance.
Meanwhile, the generality of the ministry’s staff in general and those of Agriculture Department in particular, have appreciated the ingenuity of their acting permanent secretary, Engr. Richard Ekpe.
“As a long standing Director in our Ministry, it is our resolve that the present government should confirm his appointment as a full fledged permanent secretary, so that his cherished number of years in service can be brought to bear as an asset to Ministry of Agriculture”, said the staff.
