I will give Women, Youths priority if elected Governor - Helen Esuene

BY EMMANUEL AKPAN

Governorship candidate of Labour  Party in Akwa Ibom State, who is also the Senator representing Eket Senatorial District, Senator Helen Esuene has promised women and youths in the state a pride of place in her administration, if she is elected governor on April 11th, 2015.

Addressing a mammoth crowd at the Labour Party’s mega rally at Ibibio Museum Park on Monday where she formally declared to run, Senator Esuene said women and youth will be given opportunity to contribute maximally in the development of the state.

She said as a woman, she will bring into governance transparency, integrity, humility, trust, and synergy as well as address those little things that matter for the smooth flow of public service, adding that her administration will run a bottom-up model of government where the challenges and desires of the masses are captured and addressed.

While promising to create jobs through industrialization, agriculture, tourism, the LP governorship candidate noted that her administration will provide qualitative education at all levels, introduce a functional maintenance culture for existing public infrastructures as well as upgrade others to bring them to acceptable standards.

The Eket Senator stressed that it has come to a time to install a woman on the seat of government as the labourer, maintained that her focus will be on improving the lot of the working class, this will be achieved through; improved rural road network, provision of water supply, provision of clusters for traders and service service providers, giving the primary health facilities, training and insentivization of artist and craftsmen, remodeling all forms of agriculture to make them become high as well as revenue yielding business.

According to her, “Labour Party is here to correct the imbalance. Today in Akwa Ibom State, we have level of infrastructure and the next administration under my watch shall look towards the strengthening of the human resource. The gap between the rich and the poor is too wide. We intend to narrow this gap by creating jobs, by insentivization of workers and prompt payment of wages. Gone will be the days when teachers, nurses and others work without receiving their wages. The morale of public servants will be raised through training, refraining, provision of adequate tools and improved work environment.”

Continuing, Helen Esuene said traditional institutions, professional bodies, religious bodies and the organized private sector will be constantly brought on board as useful partners in governance and that paramount rulers will be given befitting official residence in each local government headquarter to enhance their authority and performance. “I will unsure the provision of portable water in all major cities in the state. Market and abattoirs will be modernized. I assure you of abiding by the tenets of democracy which is a government of the people by the people and for the people.” she said.

The rally featured presentation of flag to all the standard bearers of the party ahead of the forthcoming general elections. National officers of the party were present at the rally.
