2015 polls: Usoro Akpanusoh begins Unit to Unit campaign

With less few days to the general elections in the State, the standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Esit Eset/Ibeno State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh last Thursday embarked on a unit to unit campaign in ward 3, Esit Eket Local Government Area.

The campaign saw PDP state and chapter officers of the area, stakeholders, women, elders of the ward, youths, past and present political office holders of the area in attendance at the three venues of the event.
Addressing the people at the palace of his Royal Highness Etebom Bassey Joseph Bassey who is the village of head of Ebe-Ekpi and the Clan Head of Eket-Offiong, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh said he decided to embarked on the unit to unit tour in order to solicit for votes for PDP during the forthcoming general elections, and also to used the opportunity to recognize all the villages in Esit Eket LGA.
Akpanusoh said the unit to unit campaign was necessary in order to meet with the grass root people as well as know their problems so that when elected, he will try to solve them which will be part of his community developmental projects even as he promised them effective and efficient representation.   
 
According to him “why we are doing this, is because we know the important of the electorates at the polls. The coming election is very different from the previous elections because of the introduction of card reader. So we decided to go down to the unit levels to educate the people on the need for them to go out and vote PDP on the elections day. The tour has afforded me the opportunity to know what the problems of the people are. When you do not know the problems of the people, you cannot represent them well.” He said. 
He said if he wins as the next House of Assembly member, he will attract developmental projects to the constituency, empower the youths and give scholarship to the people. “God will use me to re-write the story of the Esit Eket/ Ibeno State Constituency.” 

The Esit Eket/Ibeno PDP candidate promised to establish cordial relationship between State government and his people which according to him will bring developments to the constituency. He furthered assured the people that some of their requests will always be captured in the State budget. He promised to run a free transport programme for the people of his constituency as well as empower the people through micro finance programe and a lot of benefiting programmes await them.

He said that PDP government at both National and State level has performed creditably well, stressing the need for the people to vote President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to return as president, Akwa Ibom State PDP governorship standard bearer Mr. Udom Emmanuel as next governor, PDP Senatorial District Candidate, Chief Nelson Effiong as the next Senator for Eket Senatorial District, PDP candidate for Eket Federal Constituency, Mrs. Owoidighe Ekpoattai and himself as the next AKHA member.

Also speaking, the PDP candidate for Eket Federal Constituency, Mrs. Owoidighe Ekpoattai said she is convinced that the people of her constituency will deliver PDP at the polls and that she is prepared to win the election, adding that PDP will win all the way. Mrs. Ekpoattai who accompanied Usoro Akpanusuoh to the campaign, maintained that her job at the National Assembly will be to draw Federal government’s attention to the constituency as well as give them quality and effective representation.

In her words “I will empower the women, youths, give scholarships and I will be coming back to brief my people on the progress. I will work with the president and the incoming government of Akwa Ibom State to make sure that dividends of democracy are felt in my Federal Constituency.” 

The Chapter Chairman of PDP in Esit Eket, Mr. Godwin Abia said unit to unit campaign was a confirmation of the party’s wide acceptance and extreme confidence on the candidates whom he described as dream team. He called on the people to vote PDP candidates all through the elections.

The ward 3 Chairman of PDP, Mr. Effiong Akpan said ward 3 people was poised to vote the PDP at all levels at the polls cautioning that there won’t be any compromise in achieving total victory for the party as it remains a PDP ward. He said all the villages in the ward will stand firm with PDP candidates as well as vote for the party at the polls overwhelmingly.

Also speaking, the SA to Governor Godswill Akpabio on Projects Monitory, Pastor Isaiah Abia took time to sensitize the people on the new voting method. He noted that the emergence of Udom Emmanuel, a son of Eket Senatorial District, is a convincing evidence that democracy has come to stay and the PDP has proven that it believes in equity and justice by zoning the governorship seat to Eket Senatorial District.

The Vice Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Area, Hon. Enobong Asubop while making a speech, said PDP has never disappointed the area and that all the PDP candidates will represent the area effectively. He charged the people of the area to work in unity in achieving a resounding success at the polls for all the PDP candidates.

A former council chairman of Esit Eket, Hon. Victor Bassey Isangedighi in his remarks, charged the people to reject opposition parties at the polls even as he called on them to vote massively for PDP. A PDP women leader, Obongawan Grace Ekpo while speaking charged the women to queue behind all PDP candidates to actualize the mandate of the party’s candidates in the elections.
Those present at the event were: Mr. Martins Umoyio (DG, Kini-Abasi 2015), Prince Edet Bassey, Mr. Udo Friday. Mr. Udo Eka, Dr. Adisi Urua, Mr. Macurley Nyoho, Otuekong Obi Uwah, Mr. Udo Ekpo, Emmanuel Okon, Mr. Monday Ben, Mr. Bassey Udosen, Obongawan Grace Akpadiaha, Elder Ime Ususung, Princess Ini Akpadiaha, Elder Effiong Akpan amongst others.

Meanwhile, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh also addressed a mammoth crowd of people at Akpambiet Village Square and Edida Edo civic centre where he sensitized them on the new voting procedures. Over 100 members of All Progressives Congress (APC) across the three venues of the event defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They promised to deliver PDP at the polls.
