The women of Uyo Federal constituency have reiterated their determination to support Governor Godswill Akpabio and his wife, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio in recognition of their leadership qualities and selfless service to people of the state.

During a well attended meeting of the women at the Ibom Hall grounds on Thursday 20th February, 2014; the women which were drawn from the four Local Government Areas constituting the Uyo Federal Constituency; Nsit Atai, Uyo, Ibesikpo Asutan and Uruan described the Governor as a gender-friendly fellow who has not discriminated the women of the state. According to them, the empowerment packages of the governor have gone across the entire people of the state especially women, widows, less-privileged and the orphans.


Addressing the women, Obonganwan (Mrs.) Victoria Eberefiak called on the women to support the good works of the Governor, which according to her has taken the state to greater heights in terms of infrastructures and human capital developments. Counting on the numerous achievement of Chief Akpabio, Obonganwan Eberefiak who is also the leader of Uko Iban Akwa Ibom said that a successor who has the interest of the people at heart should be made to take over from the Governor to ensure the sustenance of the developments achieved so far by him.

Obonganwan Eberefiak who coordinated the meeting particularly commended the Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio; describing her as a loving and caring mother who has fought for the interest of the women and has carried them along in the state’s activities. According to her, the women have now been recognized in the politics and governance of the state by occupying key political offices amongst others.

Obonganwan Eberefiak also used the opportunity to thanked Obonganwan (Mrs.) Affiong Tommy for facilitating and contributing towards the successful hosting of the meeting. 
In her speech, Obonganwan Affiong Tommy who facilitated the meeting thanked God for making the day a reality and Obonganwan Eberefiak for her vision and efforts in uniting women of the constituency together, while thanking the women for turning out in their numbers  to declare support and solidarity to the Governor and his wife.

Obonganwan Tommy while speaking lauded the efforts of Chief Akpabio and his Wife at the realization of numerous achievements so far for the people of the state. 

According to her, the effort of the Governor’s wife has enabled women in the state make positive contributions to the development of their state; noting that since Chief Akpabio’s administration has not left out the women, they would unite together to support him in the production of a successor who will build on his solid foundation. She therefore urged the women of the Constituency to return to their respective Chapters, Wards and Unit to mobilize the women at the grassroots to support the Governor and his wife.

Among others who spoke during the meeting were wife of the Paramount Ruler of Uyo and Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. They extolled the impactful leadership qualities of the Governor and his wife to the people of the state.

Also speaking on behalf of the four Local Government Areas making up Uyo Federal Constituency, Mrs. Blessing Sunday Okon, Deaconess Grace Jeremiah, Mrs. Uduak Ubom and Mrs. Ekaette Ben accordingly pledged their continuous support and loyalty to the governor and his wife in the upcoming general election and promised to take the message back to their women at the grassroots.
