The ambition of the Law maker representing Onna State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Godwin oton Charlie, to represent the people of Eket Federal constituency at the House of representatives in 2015, received a major boost last week when no fewer than three groups threw their weight behind his aspiration, with a strong resolve to drum up support for emergence of the lawmaker.
The groups, Akwa Ibom Rainbow Coalition for good governance, Reliable Women Initiative and Eket Senatorial District Youths Assembly made their stand known during a courtesy call on the Hon. Member in his office in Uyo.
In one of the calls, the State President of Akwa Ibom Rainbow Coalition for good governance, Mr. Paul S. Offot on behalf of entourage thanked the Lawmaker, saying it an honour done to the group and wish the Lawmaker to continue in his open door policies. Mr. Paul Offot said that, the visit to the Hon. Member was to show the group’s solidarity as well as declaring that in 2015, Hon. Godwin Oton Charlie would be in the Federal Parliament to represent the people of Eket Federal Constituency in Abuja.
According to him, the group has followed with kiln interest, the representative qualities of Oton Charlie and has come to the conclusion that, when the Lawmaker is given an opportunity to represent the people in higher capacity, he will excel creditably, therefore the groups have to declare for him. He added that the Lawmaker has touched and positively impacted meaningfully on the lives of the people in the area since the inception of democracy in Eket Federal Constituency.
This and other attributes are clear indication that, Hon. Oton Charlie is the best for that position. Speaking further, Mr. Paul Offot reiterated that, the group which is political whose activities are to ensure that the transformation initiative of the present administration is continued by successive government pointed out that this could be realizable through massive enlightenment of Akwa Ibom people on who to vote into office with ability to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people. Other areas he said the group has gone into include; sensitization programmes, workshop and seminars on key areas of Akwa Ibom State developmental agenda, creation of awareness on the effects of political thuggery etc.
He also pointed out that, the group though political; it has touched the lives of the youths in the area of ICT, noting that already about twenty youths of Akwa Ibom State origin are already undergoing ICT training through the group sponsorship, emphasing that, Hon. Oton Charlie had keyed into Governor Akpabio transformation agenda, and pleaded with him not to relent in his efforts.
Another group that also commended and endorsed the candidature of Hon. Oton Charlie was Eket Senatorial Youths Assembly. The National President of the group, Hon. Joseph Mbong on behalf of the group said that, why his group paid a courtesy call on the member was to further intimate the Lawmaker on the groups unweavered support on him in 2015. Mr. Mbong maintained that, the Assembly man is the best candidate who has what it takes to help and rebuild Eket Federal Constituency to a global standard, adding that those in the past had disappeared the due to lack of effective representation. He described the Lawmaker as effective representative of the people. He charged Godwin Oton Charlie to count on their support come 2015.
The Reliable Women Initiative Akwa Ibom State, through its president Mrs. Mary Godwin Oton also commended the Lawmaker, saying that the visit to him was to show solidarity and the group’s support so that in 2015, Hon. Oton Charlie would become the representative of Eket Federal Constituents mandates.
She added that, with the calibers of women in the group, there shall be no barrier to hinder the success of the Assembly man, and charged the Lawmaker to remain focus and to continue with his good work. While charging the Lawmaker to be diligent to his legislative and other oversight functions, she said that all women in Onna and Eket Federal Constituencies are behind him.
The vice president of Reliable Women Initiative, Mrs. Dorcas Inyang also commended the Lawmaker for his effective representation and for carrying women along in his scheme of things, positing that, the visit to him was to cement their support and loyalty, promising that there shall be no turning back in 2015.
Mrs. Dorcas Inyang used the occasion to enumerate the essence of the group, stressing that the group was born out of passion to support, encourage and sensitize the women on the political activities and participation.
Other aims of the group, she said, include, support to political appointees from Onna and those aspiring into different offices of governance. She emphasized that, the visit to the Lawmaker was timely, and pleaded that, he should come to their aid and provide them with a means of mobility to further enhance their campaign strategies toward 2015. other areas she solicited for assistance include, women empowerment in various areas of specialization. While pleading with Hon. Oton Charlie to listen to their plights, she tasked the women to start mobilizing support for the Lawmaker to ensure that their promise come to bare in 2015.
In his response, Hon. Oton Charlie thanked all the groups for such an august visit, saying that he was very delighted for such honour done on him. In furtherance, he said that, “as the representative of the people, he will also keep his doors open and is ever ready to reciprocate all what his constituents have done for him. He promised that what ever are the tproblems or difficulties of any of the group, he would certainly try in his own little way to put a smile on their faces, adding that it was through their mandates and support he became their representative.
Hon. Oton Charlie therefore used the occasion to let bare his mind on the need for him to become the next Eket Federal Constituency Lawmaker, emphasizing that, he is a square peg in a round hole and nobody living or alive has equal his record in terms of effective representation and empowerment, promising that, those he has not touched their lives for the moment should not take it as a negligence but should exercise a little patience as his next empowerment exercise would go round to all. On the need to effectively represent the people of Eket Federal Constituency, the Lawmaker said, since they have spoken and declared their support for him, God has also endorsed him and he promised to work for them when he eventually become the next Federal Parliamentarian.
He commended them and pleaded with them not to only pay lip services but to make into used the dictate of their minds, adding that every prayers and request made so far by the groups shall be taken care of before the expiration of his tenure in 2015.
