Julius Berger commences clearing of NUJ site

Construction giants, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, has commenced site clearing on the proposed Godswill Akpabio International Press Centre, at the current site of the NUJ Press Centre,  Information Drive, Off IBB Way, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The site clearing is in preparation for the full commencement of construction work at the first phase of the Godswill Akpabio International Press Centre which include perimeter fencing/gate house, a 1000 capacity auditorium complex, a-two storey office complex and a club house.

  The architectural design of the Godswill Akpabio International Press Centre was done by a leading architectural firm in the country, Otto Trinity Studios.


The total land size for the Press Centre is 1.409 hectares and was acquired by the NUJ some years ago.
The site clearing by Julius Berger was approved by the state government through the Ministry of Works.
 Commenting on the development, the state chairman of the NUJ, Elder Patrick Albert commended the state government for approving the site clearing to be handled by a renowned construction firm, and said that the complex when completed will be the first of it kind in the country.

Elder Albert said members of the NUJ unanimously passed a resolution in its October 2013 State Congress naming the complex in honour of Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio who is a friend of the media and particularly for his uncommon transformation of the State.

He said groundbreaking for the project will soon be held for the take off of construction work.
Meanwhile the land clearing by Julius Berger has attracted commendations from journalists in the State and the Zonal Vice President of NUJ in-charge of South-South.

 The Vice President, Mr. Usaka Seiyefa commended the current leadership of NUJ led by Elder Patrick Albert for fast tracking the development at the Press Centre since coming on board in August 2013.
The chairmen of 13 chapels in the State Council described the current rate of development in the NUJ as unparallel and called on all journalists to rally round the chairman to ensure the success of the project.

Pastor Emmanuel Effiong, chairman of Federated Chapel said Elder Patrick Albert leadership has changed the face of NUJ in the State.
