Aniekan Etiebet joins Senate race * Says no to Akpabio’s ambition
Aniekan Etiebiet, Nephew to the former National Chairman of the All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP, may have considered throwing his hat into the ring to vie for the Senate Position for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, THE INK gathered from impeccable sources. Etiebet’s decision to contest it was learnt is from the pressure on him by his family members and political associates who are the major factors of the senatorial district politics with the belief that the legal expert will deliver democracy dividends to the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district.

The junior Etiebiet is a lawyer, a son to the former Governor of Cross River State. He had once contested the governorship position of the state when Obong Attah was transiting and today he has seriously been linked to the senate ambition, a feat that is undeniable.

One of his political associates told our political desk that Aniekan’s interest in the race will answer the question of effective senate representation for the senatorial district. He maintained that Gov. Godswill Akpabio’s ambition is not holistic but rather a plot to retire to Abuja after his two term leadership of the state. He described Aniekan Etiebiet as a thorough bred legal expert who can hold his own any time any day. He called on the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District to join hands with the Etiebet team to enthrone Aniekan who is out to give effective parliamentary leadership at the senate.

Our source reasoned that Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district needs a younger generation of politicians who will do the region proud. He appealed to politicians to see Aniekan Etiebet’s decision to serve the people as a sacrifice and join to actualize the dream.

Meanwhile, Aniekan is said to be enjoying so far the backing of the political elders and majority of the stakeholders from Abak federal constituency including some of the politicians whom as a result of one or two interests have fallen out of favour with the Governor Godswill Akpabio. Political pundits say with the way and manner a marathon meeting has been going on for the interest of Aniekan Etiebiet, it is obvious, the former gubernatorial aspirant may be picked as a consensus candidate from Abak five to challenge the state Governor Godswill Akpabio, Senator Aloysious Etok and others who may be interested in the race.
