UNIUYO FM bounces back

The University of Uyo campus Radio Station last week resumed full broadcasting activities after months of low-key service due to the re-branding process in the studio. The announcement was made known by the studio manager, Pastor Idy James in a meeting with presenters of the station.

At the meeting, he also announced the arrival of a new transmitter with a capacity bigger than the previous one.

The station which transmits on the frequency modulation of 100.7 megahertz is located at the town campus of the University and has modern studio facilities to boost its service delivery.

Uniuyo 100.7 FM is the only active community radio station in Akwa Ibom state, aimed at informing and educating listeners. It’s broadcasting coverage spans across Uyo and its immediate environs. It can be recalled that the campus radio did not delve into full commercial broadcasting until 2012 when the former Cool FM, Abuja station manager, Pastor Idy James came on board.

Since then, major developments have been recorded in the station, such as the acquisition of a digital transmitter complemented by a digital antenna, up-to-date studio facilities, training and retraining of On-Air personalities (OAP) etc. The station has also produced good broadcasters like Inemesit Ekong (BBC and FRCN trainee, former presenter Ray Power FM, Abuja), Courage Mbon (Bush House Nigeria, Abuja), Uloma Ekocha a.k.a Oma (Planet FM, Uyo) and many others in the state.

For the record, Uniuyo FM is one of the four radio stations in the state, and the first non-government owned station as well.
