NDDC to do 34 roads in A’Ibom …as residents pour encomiums on the commission

BY DANIEL EKPENYONG

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said that a total of 34 township road rehabilitation contracts have been awarded across the state which, according to a press release by the commission, is aimed at ameliorating the plight of the residents who have had to live with impassable road network in the state.

Meanwhile, most of the contractors whose names and jobs have been published in the release have mobilized to site and work has commenced everywhere even as residents bare their minds on this impressive development.

For example, Barr.(Mrs.) Iniobong Essang, a resident of Anwa Nsa street off Ikpa road, Uyo in a chat with THE INK newspaper said the said Anwa Nsa street and the adjoining Ekpene Ntan street had remained impassable for years and that those of them living within the vicinity of the area it was hell going out and coming in on a daily basis.

“Today, our story has changed. It is a smooth ride in and out of the street. We are no longer cut off from the rest of the city. May God bless President Buhari for this”, she submitted.

Also speaking, another lawyer Barr. Rex Ekpenyong told our reporter that Ekpene Ntan street which has just been rehabilitated was a source of concern to him as a person because as he said, the street was originally named after his late father Obong (Barr) Effiong Ekpenyong and for the condition of the road to degenerate to the state in which NDDC had to intervene, it really worried him.

“Indeed, I am happy with NDDC. I always wished it was something I could handle as a private citizen. This intervention by NDDC has really brought a lot of relief to me and all those living or passing through here, he said”.
