FEYRep at one: A’Ibom Gov’s Wife presents scorecard

 

The Akwa Ibom state first lady and founder of Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Programme (FEYReP), Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel  has said that her ‘not -for profit platform’ in the last  one year has intervened to restore human dignity through interventions for the elderly, sensitization programmes for teenage girls, economic empowerment for women, health outreaches to rural communities and shelter for the less privilege.

Mrs. Emmanuel who spoke at the grand finale of FEYReP’s one year anniversary held at Ibom Hall said she was fulfilled to see her age-long vision to positively impact on the living conditions of people especially women come to reality.
 

She noted that FEYReP which is founded on the core objectives of empowering families and restoring values in the youths, in the last one year has without a doubt, complemented government’s efforts to make every Akwa Ibom family rise to greatness. She said “I voluntarily entered a pact with the people of this state to always stand in the gap through FEYReP. This first anniversary event therefore provides an opportunity to take stock of our achievements in the past one year and restate our commitment to the constituencies we serve.”

While paying tribute to the inspiring moral support her husband Mr. Udom Emmanuel, Mrs. Emmanuel said without his encouragement, the FEYReP idea would still be a pipedream. She also commended supporters, corporate friends and International development partners for their amazing partnership in the past one year stating that the successes recorded could not have been possible without them.

In his remarks, the Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel congratulated his wife for the successes recorded in the past one year, describing FEYReP as a soothing balm to different homes. He warned against the molestation of the girl-child in the society, calling on the women to report any case of abuse to the Ministry of Women Affairs for proper disciplinary actions.  

Governor Emmanuel advised the women to key into FEYReP’s programme as they are the pillars of the society and expressed optimism that the programme will launch them into productive and meaningful lives. In his humane disposition, the Governor offered automatic employment to one of FEYReP’s beneficiaries; Mr. Bassey Etim into the state civil service.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. (Hon.) Barr. Onofiok Luke and Managing Director of NIEMETH Pharmaceuticals, Ebere Ekuneobi extolled the visions of the Governor’s wife in tackling the menace of girl-child going into early motherhood and wanton disintegration of family bonds. They commended the first lady for her visionary disposition in changing the fortune of women through her pet project and promised to partner with her to do more in years ahead.  

Highpoint of the event was the cutting of the anniversary cake by the Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel and wife, Martha, assisted by the deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, the Speaker Onofiok Luke and other government dignitaries.
