AKHA seeks FG’s intervention in Ikot Abasi road

Akwa Ibom State  House of Assembly has called on the Federal Ministry of works, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA, and the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, to urgently move to fix collapsed portions of Ikot Abasi-Mkpat-Enin–Uyo federal road.

The resolution of the House is sequel to a matter of urgent public importance brought before it by the member representing Ikot-Abasi state constituencies, Hon. Uduak Ududo who drew the attention of his colleagues to the deplorable state of the Ikot Abasi-Uyo road thereby impeding free flow of traffic and causing discomfort to commuters and other road users.

The lawmaker presented pictures of the deplorable condition of the road before the House, praying the lawmakers to prevail on both the federal and state government agencies to come to the aid of his constituents whom he said were experiencing difficulties as a result of the poor state of the road.

“Ikot Abasi has a major road that links Mkpat Enin, Abak and Uyo. If urgent measures are not taken to address the situation, we may be cut off from the remaining part of the state”, Hon. Ududo pleaded.

Reacting, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, commended Hon. Ududo for drawing the attention of the House to the matter. Recalling the discomfort he and other members of the House went through recently while traveling to Port Harcourt for a retreat.

Speaker Luke pointed out that it was pertinent that the relevant federal government agencies and departments be alerted to address the situation. He urged the federal government to be alive to its responsibility by fixing deplorable roads that fall within its jurisdiction.

He equally directed the state ministry of works and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to embark on remedial work on the road to allow for free flow of traffic on that axis.
