It was a celebration galore and God’s immeasurable benevolence to the family of Elder Edet Okpo, the Secretary, The Sensor Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council and Media Consultant to Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron as he dedicated his baby Joshua Okpo, Jnr to the Lord.
The well attended ceremony which took place at The Apostolic Church, Ikot Udo Uso Assembly, Oron road, Uyo, attracted personalities from all walks of life including the Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Mr. Joshua Okpo/wife and staff of the Academy, former Commissioner in the State, Barr. Effiong Abia and wife, Barr. Ikwo Abia, The Provost, College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Dr. Patrick Uko and wife, Registrar of the College Mr. Iniabasi Ubong and Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Ofonime Akpan, the immediate past House of Assembly Member, representing Okobo State Constituency, Engr. Chief Asuquo Odiong and wife, Evelyn; the Chairman, Mbo Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Victor Antai, Engr. In his exhortation, The Area Superintendent, The Apostolic Church, Nung Atai Area, Okobo Local Government Area, Apostle E. Eduene admonished the parents of Joshua Okpo, Jnr to bring up the child in the fear and admonition of God and lay a solid spiritual and academic foundation for the child to thrive.
Apostle Eduene who described the baby as the Joshua in the bible, noted that if Joshua Okpo Jnr is inculcated with sound moral values, discipline and fear of God, he would grow to become very useful to their parents, himself, family, church, community and society at large. He however invoked the blessings of God upon the baby and assured of God’s divine security over him.
In their separate testimonies, Elder/Mrs. Edet Okpo expressed gratitude to God for the gift of Joshua and promised to train him in the fear and admonition of God. Elder Okpo registered his deep appreciation to Barr./Barr. (Mrs.) Effiong Abia for their support to his family and described Abia as a detribalized and God-fearing politician who has a date and appointment with Akwa Ibom People in 2015.
Edet Okpo and wife also unwavering gratitude to the Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Amb Joshua Okpo for his benevolence to their family and Akwa Ibom People, describing him as a result-oriented administrator with super sensational passion for quality service delivery.
Elder Okpo, a Media Consultant to the academy hinted that the decision of his family to name their son after the Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, was informed by the Rector’s humane-disposition, integrity, humility, generosity, sense of humour and fertile sense of administration, as evident in the holistic repositioning of the premier Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron in line with global best standards.
According to Elder Okpo, Prior to the Rector’s assumption of office, Oron Urban was a volatile zone occasioned by the activities of cult boys, hunger, poverty and unemployment, but the present Management of the Academy under Joshua Okpo has consigned the ugly scenario into the dust bin of history, as some of the youths have been engaged in fruitful and meaningful ventures, while the rector has also initiated relative peace in the once Warring communities of Idua Ukpatta and Udung Okung as part of academy’s corporate social responsibilities.
Elder Okpo thanked the provost, College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Engr. Asuquo Odiong and wife, Engr. Kufre Ekong Inyang of Chevron, Chairman of Okobo and Mbo, Rt. Hon. Princess Felicia Bassey and Rt. Hon. Victor Antai, NUJ Chairman, Elder Patrick Albert for their support to the success of the event and prayed God to reward them bountifully. Okpo however donated a modern keyboard and trumpet to the church, on behalf of his son, Joshua and redecorated the church to meet modern standard.
In their separate remarks, the Rector Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Amb. Joshua Okpo, former Commissioner in the State Barr. Effiong Abia, Provost, College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Dr. Patrick Uko, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council, Elder Patrick Albert, expressed thanks to God for the safe delivery of the baby and poured encomiums on the parents for a job well done. They referred to Elder Edet Okpo as a committed Media Executive whose diligence in providing accurate and objective reportage has contributed immensely to the growth of their institutions, the state and society at large.
Guests were later treated to a colourful reception at Emrosy Hotel, Shelter Afrique, Uyo. Comedian Sir James, DJ Spin Disc were on hand to entertain guests.
