The former transition committee Chairman for Urueoffong Oruko LGA, Chief Edet Okon Isong has described as useless and unfortunate the statement credited to Aniekan Umanah the state commissioner for Information when he said in an interview granted a state based paper (not THE INK) that Attah’s reception was no big deal and that Akpabio had the highest reception.
Isong spoke to THE INK via telephone on Sunday afternoon. The Okosisi 1 who is also the publisher of Newsday Newspaper said the statement made by Umanah against Attah is quite unfortunate to come from the mouth of a commissioner who is still serving. He said, “Obong Attah is not only a boss to Akpabio, Umanah’s boss but also an Elder statesman to both the state Akwa Ibom and the country Nigeria”.
The doyen of Newspaper publishing in Akwa Ibom state further maintained that Godswill Akpabio may not have asked Umanah to make such a careless statement but that the information commissioner was only being overzealous. He called on the people of the state to dismiss Umanah’s ranting against Obong Attah as the information commissioner was only displaying his unfortunate antics of uncivilization. He faulted Umanah’s claim that the reception for Obong Attah was not a big deal noting also that it is the likes of Aniekan Umanah that are in the habit of giving the state Governor Godswill Akpabio a bad image as one who is always insulting his Elders.
The Oro born politician stated further that Aniekan Umanah lacks the locus to speak against Obong Attah because according to him the ex Governor laid the path for the enjoyment Umanah is currently living in today. He called on the Information commissioner to hasten and enroll in the School of respect where he will learn the art of respect for Elders and constituted authorities. He said the reception for Attah was one of the best that any state could do for her citizen who has made her proud.
CHIEF Edet Isong maintained that if Aniekan Umanah was learned and exposed enough, he would not have made such comments against a leader who is universally celebrated as one that has touched the lives of so many people and institutions. He called on the Information commissioner to ask for forgiveness as the law of kama and nemesis may not set him free if he fails to do so. Isong also called on the younger generation of politicians to look up to the Older generations for guidance as according to him resorting to insults and pulling the older generation down like Aniekan Umanah is trying to do, will not do any good to the upcoming politicians.
He described Aniekan Umanah in this wise as a bad example that should be ignored by any young politician who wants to make headway in a political journey.
