Ibesikpo Asutan 2015: Group roots for AKHA Speaker’s Aide

Ibesikpo Asutan 2015: Group roots for AKHA Speaker’s Aide

The Senior Special Assistant on Media to Speaker, Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr. Ernest Akpan, has been urged to contest next year’s House of Assembly election for Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency on the platform of PDP.

A group, Greater Ibesikpo Asutan for 2015, in chat with reporters in Nnung Udoe, the headquarters of Ibesikpo Asutan, said the area was in dire need of a core professional to consolidate on the gains of the present and former representatives.

The President of the group himself from Asutan ward 2, Mr Bassey Akpan, said Ernest who is from Ward 1, possesses all the qualities needed for a new generation of a legislator that will set Ibesikpo Asutan on the path of responsive representation and economic growth.

He said apart from the fact that Akpan hails from Ibesikpo axis (Afaha Atai), where the State House position of the constituency has been zoned to, he has the capacity, legislative know-how and right attitude to change things positively in Ibesikpo Asutan, having learnt the rope in the State House of Assembly for over four years now as Press Secretary and later as Senior Special Assistant on media to the present speaker.

In his words: “In the legislature we are talking about experience because for instance in our State, the house is made up of 26 sound and highly intelligent representatives. You need to brainstorm and bring out solutions to germane issues and discussions and of course, you also lobby to bring home something for the people whose mandate you represent. Ernest has an overdose of Legislative ideas.

Don’t forget that he was appointed the Press Secretary to the Rt Hon Anietie Etuk and of course, when the lawmaker resigned his appointment as Speaker, the current speaker, Elder Samuel Ikon appointed him based on merit, astuteness, top penchant for hard work and sincerity which are some of his sterling qualities” Akpan observed.

Bassey said his group has embarked on a sensitisation campaign across the entire political wards of Ibesikpo Asutan to sell the candidature of the astute journalist; Mr Ernest Akpan as the best to emerge member representing the area in the State House of Assembly in 2015.

“If you look at the crop of aspirants currently in the race, none of them matches the personality of Ernest Akpan. In fact, he is the most qualified given his pedigree and exposure.

“The first journalist in Akwa Ibom to lead his learned colleagues in the State as Chairman, Federated Chapel of NUJ, the first man to lead the entire Editors in the State as Chairman, Independent Editors’ Forum, Editor-in-Chief of litany reputable newspapers in the State and a publisher...Ernest has more than enough to offer the people of Ibesikpo Asutan as their representative. The time has come for us to have a voice in the House, not just a voice but a loud voice, who will complement that with effectual representation, massive oversight functions and gargantuan empowerment programs and I can tell you totally that the Almighty God who gives power is already with the humble man and will not hide his face from a man who has over the years devoted time and meager resources he has to ameliorate the sufferings of his people”, Mr Akpan noted.
