Late Akpan Bassey Udeme laid to rest
The remains of Late Brother Akpan Bassey  Udeme of Nung Antia II, Use Ndon village, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area was laid to rest on Saturday, September 13th, 2014. Late Akpan Bassey Udeme aged 75 (1939-2014) died on the 23rd day of July, 2014.

According to biography, Late Akpan Bassey Udeme was born in December 3rd, 1939 into a royal family as the first child of Late Bassey Udeme Umoren Etok Antia Essien of Nung Antia II in Use Ndon Village, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

Late Udeme attended the defunct church of Scotland Mission School, Use Ndon and later completed his standard six at the Presbyterian School, Ikot Inyang in 1950.In pursuit of further knowledge and academic empowerment, late Brother Akpan Bassey Udeme proceeded to Aba were he completed his secondary education at the St. Paul Comprehensive Technical College in 1955.

Late Udeme got married in 1964 to Late Sister Eno Akpan Bassey Udeme of Nung Anyang Ikot Obioedep in Mbiabong Edem Edik village, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. The marriage was blessed with seven children (six boys and a girl).

 During his lifetime, Late Akpan Bassey Udeme, popularly called “Ette Udeme” by friends and admirers due to his fatherly disposition to all he came across was a most soft spoken, kind-hearted, peace-loving and a humble personality.

He was a very passionate and practical Christian. He embraced God early in life and was baptized into the Church of Christ, Use Ndon as one of the pioneer members.

The funeral service in honour of Late Brother Akpan Bassey Udeme took place at Government Primary School, use Ndon, Ibiono Ibom LGA and was conducted by Church of Christ, 3A Hawkin Road, Calabar, Cross River State and Church of Christ, Use Ndon. The officiating minister, Evangelist Ekene Roland during his exhortation, charged Christians to live a good life while on earth.

Evangelist Roland described late Akpan Bassey Udeme as a true man of God who was always committed in doing God’s work, adding that he was not just a church member but a practical Christian whose exemplary life reflected Christ-like virtues in all his activities on earth.

In a chat with our reporter,one of his sons, Barr. Mfon Udeme expressed sadness over the death of his father even as he said his father lived a good life while on earth. Mfon Udeme maintained that as a close son to his late father, he has emulated the rock solid faith in God and the capacity to face challenges in life from his late father.

He described his late father as a closed friend to him as well as his political adviser. “My father was my close friend and my political adviser. He always advised me on politics, and always wishes me well in everything, what a great man, I will always miss him”.

Barr Mfon Udeme used the opportunity to thank his friends, political associates, professionals colleagues, government officials, sympathizers amongst others who turned out en-mass to grace the funeral service.

Dignitaries who attends the event were: Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Akan Okon, Commissioner for Special Duties, Barr Emmanuel Enoidem, Ibiono Ibom Council Chairman, Hon Godwin Ekpo, Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning, Hon. Eno Akpan, Commissioner for Rural Development, Rt. Hon. Ignatius Edet amongst others.
