Uyo people laud Gov Akpabio’s transformation


Strides as they get 20 new projects

The people of Uyo local government area of Akwa Ibom, have expressed deep appreciation to the State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio for transforming the State Capital from a mere local government headquarters to a destination of choice for Nigerians.
  
The appreciation was expressed when the Acting Chairman of Uyo, Dr. Roberta Edem, the Leader of Uyo Local Government Legislative Council and Chairman, Leaders’ Legislative Forum in Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Joseph Archibong and the Chairman of People’s Democratic Party in Ward 8, Uyo, Comrade Japhet Robert Akpan, spoke on Wednesday during the inauguration of some educational-based projects in the area by Governor Akpabio.

“Your Excellency, we are very happy with what you have done for the people of Uyo. You have seen it on our faces. We thank you so much and we hope more projects will be commissioned in Uyo.” Dr Edem said while receiving the Governor and his entourage at the Council Secretariat. 


At Community Secondary School, Ikot Oku Ikono, where a six-classroom/Office block; two five-classroom blocks; a Library/Assembly Hall block; an Introductory Technology block; and a Principal Office were commissioned, the Member representing Uyo Ward Eight and Leader of Uyo Legislative Council, Hon. Joseph Archibong, who likened Governor Akpabio to the late nationalists, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, extolled his performance and leadership qualities, describing them as worth emulating. 

On his part, the Chairman of PDP in Uyo Ward 8, Comrade Japhet Akpan, said “the people of the Ward appreciate what our dear Governor has done for us. We are very grateful to him, for laying a solid foundation for our children, through the provision of free and compulsory education and for creating a conducive environment for quality teaching and learning.” 

Also, at Cornelia Cornelly College, Afaha Oku, the Governor inaugurated a six-classroom/Office block; three hostel blocks; an Assembly Hall; as well as a Textile and Clothing Department building. The Principal, Mrs Bridget Raphael Edem said the School, which was established in 1949, “was completely decayed, but has now been transformed” with adequate facilities, courtesy of Governor Akpabio’s administration. 

As part of their appreciation, the students of the School, led by Miss Idongesit Essien Eyo, presented a souvenir to the Governor and his wife, Ekaete Akpabio, for their passion for the education and development of women and the girl-child. 
The Governor was also at St James Primary School, Okopedi Itiam, where he commissioned a six-classroom block; a four-classroom block; and a Hall/Classroom block, while at St George’s RCM Primary School, Aka Offot, a six-classroom/Office block was inaugurated. 

Another port of call for the Governor was Archbishop Usanga International Nursery/Primary School, Ediene Ikot Obio Imo, where he commissioned two six-classroom blocks; and a mini-water project. 
While inaugurating the projects, Governor Akpabio, who was represented by his Commissioner for Housing and Urban Renewal, Sir Dan Abia, described education as the greatest asset parents or governments can give for their children and citizens to be self-reliant.  

He said with quality education, poverty and unemployment can be tackled, stressing that this encouraged his government to invest massively in the education sector, as part of his effort to build a better and brighter future for children in Akwa Ibom.
He advised the beneficiaries to make proper use of the facilities for posterity and protect the projects against vandalism.
