Itung Village embarks on Environmental Sanitation …appeals for grading of roads, electricity

In compliance with the state government directive, the people of Itung Village in Abak local government area last Saturday trooped out in large number to participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

Led by the Village Head, Chief Monday Nkantion, the people cut grasses, dug gutters and cleared the over 3-kilometre Itung Road leading to the Community.

Speaking with our reporter after the exercise, the Village Head, Chief Monday Nkantion, commended the State Governor, Mr, Udom Emmanuel for introducing the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, stressing that sanitation brings good health.

Chief Nkantion explained that the people of the village regularly embark on sanitation exercise to maintain the roads and keep the community clean.
The Village Head however appealed to government to come to their aid by grading the roads in the community so as to make it motorable.

Also speaking, the Village Council Secretary, Mr. Raymond Marcus extended appreciation of the community to President Buhari, the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the Executive Chairman Abak Local Government Council, Barr. Imoh Williams for the relative peace being enjoyed in this part of the country.

Mr. Marcus particularly thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for the fight against youth restiveness and cultism which he noted had posed serious threat to the peaceful co-existence of the people.

The Village Council Secretary also showered praises on the Chairman of Abak local government Council, Barr. Imoh Williams who within his first 100 days in office made a bold step to open up rural communities in Abak by directing the grading of roads and opening new ones.

Although the gesture is yet to be extended to Itung Village, Mr. Marcus was full of hope that the Chairman shall extend it to their community.

“Although the gesture is yet to be extended to our community, it is our firm belief that the Chairman being a man of integrity shall come to the aid of the community by grading our roads just as he has done to other communities in Abak” the Secretary appealed.

Mr Marcus who is also the Proprietor, Independence Comprehensive College, Itung  also appealed to the State Government to take up the second phase of the electrification project in Itung so that electricity can be extended to other places such as NIFOR area, Atan, College area and neighouring Okon Village where the current Leader, Abak Legislative Council hails from.
