BAFIL vs SEN. OBA: Supreme Court set for Judgement July 6
..PDP confident of victory
The panel of Supreme Court sitting in Abuja will on 6th July, 2018 give judgement on the appeal brought before it by a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Bassey Etim challenging the judgement of the Appeal Court, which upheld the election of Senator Bassey Albert (OBA).
Earlier at the hearing of the main appeal on,10th April, 2018, counsels to the first respondent (Senator OBA) and the second respondent (PDP) adopted and relied on their briefs of argument, urging his Lordship to dismiss the appeal and uphold the judgement of the Appeal Court.
Senator Albert was represented by Paul Usoro, SAN, Solomon Umoh, SAN and three others, while PDP was represented by Goddy Umoh esq, Emmanuel Enoidem and Ini Ememobong.
Counsel to the third respondent (INEC), Alhassan Umar and three others similarly adopted his respondent brief but craved the indulgence of his Lordship to remain neutral, preferring to “be bound by the position of the law”.
But Chief Kanu Agabi, counsel to Bassey Etim (Appellant) had earlier adopted his brief of argument, urging his Lordship to “set aside the judgement of the lower court and restore the judgement of the court of first instance”.
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party and stakeholders are confident that Senator Bassey Albert Akpan will win at the Supreme Court as they are confident that the Appeal Court ruling will be upheld by the Apex Court.
‘’ We are confident of victory at the Supreme Court and we know this matter will be laid to rest finally this week in our favour( the PDP), a top stakeholder of the PDP told our reporter.
