Ibom All Farmers Consultative Assembly to hold rally for Udom

Farmers in Akwa Ibom State under the agies of Ibom All Farmers Consultative Assembly have concluded plans to organize a grand reception/all farmers endorsement mega-rally in support of His Excellency, Chief Farmer, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, according to the State Chairman, Atuekong Engr. Austin Ndaeyo. 

Ndaeyo, while speaking with THE INK over the weekend, said the event will take place soon.

He said the reason for the endorsement is because of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s strides in Agricultural Sector in the last three years in office, saying the Governor has done very well by not playing politics with Agriculture in Akwa Ibom State, hence the superlative performance witnessed in the Agro sector cutting across crops and livestock’s.

He applauded Deacon Udom Emmanuel for the P.P.P. cassava mill project commissioned to assist cassava farmers on processing and boast comparative advantage in growing cassava with the cultivation of scheme over 1,450 hecter of cassava seed multiplication scheme to provide high breed cassava stems to farmers in the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

While acknowledging with deep appreciation the foresight of the Chief Farmer, Deacon Udom Emmanuel which has also resulted in the procurement and establishment of 11,000 hecters coconut plantation and refinery project in the state, the project which farmers are front time beneficiary have over two million coconut stands planted, the State Chairman of the Assembly pointed out that the coconut oil is now hot cake in international market.

He commended  Governor Udom Emmanuel for establishing the technical committee of Agric and Food Sufficiency, noting that the committee have done very well after inauguration in distributing high breed maize free of charge in the State and also the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel for establishing a modern fish smoking facilities at Ukpenekang to ease the processing smoked fish women in the area.

According to Ndaeyo, “On resumption of office, the Agro-friendly Governor, commissioned the Akwa-prime (hatchery & poultry Ltd.) because of his foresight of cutting down the capital flight in bringing in of Day-Old Chicken from neighboring States, and that today, Akwa Ibom State can boast of quality, standard and stress free Day Old Chicks (DOC) with a hatchery capacity of over 10,000 birds per week which has also reduce the capital flight on important of feed from neighboring state.”

He however, used the opportunity to appealed to the Governor to sustain the graint strides recorded in the Agricultural Sector by identifying practicing and genuine farmers and assist them with agricultural incentives such as Improved Agricultural seedlings, Tractors and equipments, high breed parents stock of livestock, interest free loan and grants to farmers in the State to enable farmers maximize the opportunities that are bound in Agricultural Sector.

Engr. Ndaeyo called on all farmers group in Akwa Ibom State to rally around the programme to make it a successful.
