The Nigerian came on with a minute left in the Reds' massive victory over the Citizens on Sunday afternoon
Victor Moses was a late substitute as Liverpool defeated Manchester City 3-2 at Anfield to continue their push for a first Premier League title in 24 years.
The Nigerian, who has been consigned to the bench for most of his loan period with the Reds, replaced Brazilian match winner Coutinho in the 89th minute.
Coutinho had scored the winning goal a few minutes earlier in the 78th and Brendan Rodgers' introduction of Moses was able to help the hosts shore up the midfield after Liverpool were reduced to 10 men following the sending off of Henderson in added time.
Moses had two touches of the ball, one where he ran at the City defence but was undone by a heavy touch on the ball underlining his low confidence having been done a lot of harm with his length of time on the bench.
The 23-year-old is expected to play a big part in Nigeria's World Cup challenge in Brazil in June.
Liverpool won the game courtesy of goals from Raheem Sterling, Martin Skrtel and Coutinho and moved beyond the Citizens who looked to a second half fight back with strikes from David Silva and a Glen Johnson own goal.
They now have 77 points with their 10th win in a row to brighten hopes of winning their first league title since 1990.
It was contrasting fortunes in Italy for Ogenyi Onazi who's 82nd minute goal was not enough as Lazio suffered a 4-2 defeat away to Napoli.
The Nigerian midfielder played the entire game which saw Argentinean striker Gonzalo Higuain score a hat trick depsite the visitors taking the lead via Senard Lulic.
Onazi's goal set up the game for 3-2 but Higuain made sure the match was put beyond the visitors as he scored his third in the fourth minute of added on time.
