No fewer than 88 people-oriented projects executed by Governor Godswill Akpabio in Uyo Federal Constituency have been commissioned in Akwa Ibom State as part of the constituency tour/town hall meeting of the Governor around the state.
The projects included school blocks, rural electrification and water projects across the four local government areas of the constituency.
Inaugurating the projects, the Governor said he was determined to continue executing more projects until his last day in office to touch the lives of his people.
The governor also recalled the new government house, Governor’s Office, Deputy Governor’s Office, Banquet Hall, E-library, Tropicana Center, housing estates , the new flyovers and various flood control projects including the innovative pipe jacking technology drainage facilities among the turn-key projects executed by his administration in Uyo Federal Constituency.
He however lamented that the shortage in crude oil revenue between 2012 and 2013 was responsible for the inability of his administration to do more roads as he had envisaged.
Governor Akpabio maintained that more roads will be constructed in Uyo Federal constituency, assuring that since Government is a continuous process, even those projects that may not be completed at the expiration of his tenure will be completed by his successor.
He advised the people of the constituency comprising Uyo, Uruan, Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Atai local government, to take active part in quest for the next governor of the State so that they only a trustworthy and accountable leader emerges.
Governor Akpabio harped on the need for the people to embrace love, kindness and peaceful co-existence, urging them to shun selfish politicians who think of their personal gains ahead of the state unity.
Akpabio who recounted that apart from the more 175km of roads constructed in the constituency, his administration also completed 619 rural projects between 2008 and 2013 while more projects were still ongoing.
The State Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of Interministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee Mr Bassey Albert explained that of the 619 rural projects, 319 were cited in Uyo, 83 projects were in Uruan while Ibesikpo Asutan benefited from 132 projects as at 2013.
The Story in Uyo was similar to that of the previously visited federal constituencies as the stakeholders took turns to salute Governor Akpabio for his numerous breadth taking projects and spread of political offices to indigenes of the federal constituency.
A political leader in Uruan Chief Ekpe Atakpo, that of Nsit Atai Otuekong Raphael Bassey, paramount ruler of Uyo and Ibesikpo Asutan, as well as a former representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Nigeria Dr Val Attah were among those who lauded Governor Akpabio for all the projects cited in the constituency and around the state.
They also routed in support of equity and fairness, by advocating that the 2015 Governorship position in the State should zoned to Eket Senatorial District.
Their view was summarized by the political leader of Uyo Federal Constituency Chief Uwem Ita Etuk, who said that the Uyo people were ready to support the Peoples Democratic Party to produce a governor that will continue with the uncommon good governance that Governor Akpabio has established in the State.
