Navy arrests 3 suspected kidnappers in Akwa Ibom

Nigerian Navy has apprehended three suspected kidnappers at Ebughu town in Ibaka, Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

Parading the suspects before newsmen in Ikot Abasi, Commodore Joel Ogazi, Commander, Nigerian Navy NNS Jubilee, said the suspected were arrested in Ibaka following a tip off during operation.
The suspects arrested were Mr Gabriel Asuquo, Bassey Nyong and Gideon Ebong.

According to him, some of the suspect criminals escaped. The community and the navy personnel are on their trials to see how we can arrest them.

Ogazi told newsmen that the victim had been released and he is presently in their custody.
“I can confirm to you that the captain of a fishing trawler that was kidnapped had been released and is presently in our custody.

“We were also able to effect the release of two other captains of fishing trawlers kidnapped previously about a month ago and they have giving us useful information to apprehend the criminals,’’ he said.
He restated the commitment of the Nigerian Navy to check security problems in the state.


“We have promised that as far as we are concern this place will be made safe from criminals. I have said it times without number that there is no hiding place for criminals in the state,’’ he said.
Ogazi noted that the security network build by the Nigerian Navy had started yielding fruits because “is giving us information in which we have been able to arrests some criminals causing problems in the state’’.
He noted that sea piracy had caused untold hardship to fishermen in the area and promised to step security in the area.

“We are going to leave no stone in turn until we flush out all the unwanted hoodlums in our area of operations,’’ the commander said.

He appealed to the host communities to give useful information to the Nigerian Navy in order to arrest perpetrators of crime in the area.
“We are appealing to our host community to cooperate with us on the operations of the hoodlums for the benefits of all,’’ he said.

He noted that the economy of the host communities had been strangulated because of the operations of the criminal in the area.

The suspected kidnappers were handed over to the State Security Services for further interrogations.
