Militants hold Akwa Ibom hostage

Militants hold Akwa Ibom hostage
Last week Monday, some gunmen suspected to be members of the amphibious Niger Delta militants attacked the Marine Police base in Oron, carting away bout 40 rifles from the police on duty.
Although no life was lost, the heavy bombardment is said to have subjected the police who surrendered their loaded riffles.

Competent sources said that the officer in charge of crimes, alongside the men on duty are cooling their feet at Ikot Akpan Abia, the State Police Command Headquarters where they are helping the police to unravel the mystery behind such coordinated and successful criminal operation.

Meanwhile, Louis Edet of the National Police Headquarters is said to be very much interested in the incident and had invited the Commissioner of Police to Abuja for explanations even as some officers and men may be booted out or jailed.

When contacted for confirmation of the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Etim Dickson (DSP) dismissed the possible interrogation of the Commissioner of Police. In his words through a text message sent to our newsroom, “there was attack on Marine Police and some arms taken from those who were on duty. Those policemen are being interrogated. The incident has nothing to do with CP taking leave of absence.’’
