Itu Local Government gets more road projects

Construction work is to commence on Mary Slessor Road, Obot ltu, and access Roads to Itam Market, both, in ltu Local Governmentst Area.
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim lnyangeyen made this known while leading his team of Engineers and newsmen on an on the spot assessment of the road.

Commissioner Inyangeyen said the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel had given the approval that work should commence on the road project, in keeping with a promise he made to the Akwa Ibom State Traders Association when they endorsed him during a Grand Rally at Uyo, and in response to an SOS from Itu leaders on the sorry state and neglect of the Mary Slessor Road, which leads to the historic tourist site, being the residence of the iconic missionary and an important hospital in Itu.

Commissioner lnyangeyen noted that, on completion of the road, economic activities in the area will come alive as well as greater access to healthcare delivery at the Mary slessor General Hospital.


At the ltam market,The Commissioner accompanied by the Member representing ltu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Prince ldongesit ltuen, and the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Road Maintenance Agency, Dr Godwin Ntukdeh, said directives have been given by the governor, that, intervention measures should commence at the market.

He said government is considering constructing two roads for Entry and Exit at the market for trailers to offload goods, in order to decongest traffic at the Calabar ltu highway.

Commissioner Inyangeyen, who disclosed that, the road project will be done through Direct Labor, appealed to ltu Local Government Council to give access of way for work to commence.
Responding, the Member representing ltu in the State House of Assembly, Hon. ldongesit Ituen, pledged the support of ltu people to ensure the timely completion of the project.

Another road inspected in Itu is, the Ekiritam/Mbiaya road.

Accompanied by the m Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Works, Elder Effiong Essien and elder statesman from Itu, Senator Anietie Okon, the Commissioner said the Present Administration is not only interested in constructing roads but linking up communities.

He pointed out that the rain not being a barrier, most of the ongoing road projects in the state will be commissioned by May during the third anniversary of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.

Senator Okon commended Governor Emmanuel for the road projects, adding that Itu people will reciprocate the gesture come 2019 general election by re-electing the governor for a second term in office.

In a related development, Commissioner Inyangeyen has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work done in Udung Uko Local Government Area.
He made his feeling known while inspecting the Secretariat road project at Udung Uko.

The Commissioner said he is satisfied with the work so far done by the contractor noting that the project is done through the Alternative Funding Approach

Mr lnyang stressed with approval from the governor, the Udung Uko road will be taken to a T- Junction that will link roads to Urue Offong Oruko and Mbo .Local Government Areas.


He acknowledged the peaceful atmosphere provided the contractor to execute his job and urged the youths to sustain the tempo.

The commissioner and his team also inspected the Redeemed Christian church road in Afaha Etok Ibesikpo, in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area and the State Secretariat Annex road in Uyo Local Government Area.
