The left full back of the U-17 Golden Eaglets, Samuel Okon last weekend bagged the 2013 young player of the year Award.
Also conferred with the Award were the former Akwa United striker, Mfon Udoh as Akwa Ibom State Footballer of the year, Akwa united Chief Coach, Emmanuel King and the Executive Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Hon. Godwin Ekpo as the pillar of sports development in Akwa Ibom State.
The award which was organized by the renowned Sports programme on AKBC TV “Sports fair” took place at the AKBC TV studio last Friday.
Presenting the Awards, the producer and presenter of “Sports Fair”, Edidiong Stephen announced that the awards were given based on their track records in the State football. He noted that Samuel Okon was honoured on grounds of his excellent performance in the just concluded U-17 world cup as he scored 2 goals while Mfon Udoh scored 15 goals for Akwa United in the last football season which according to him calls for celebration. He added that Coach Emmanuel king made a name in Akwa Ibom football when he took Akwa Starlet to the quarter-finals last year’s FA Cup, while Hon. Godwin Ekpo has been a front-line supporter of sport development in the state.
In their separate responses, Coach Emmanuel King thanked the producer of “Sports Fair” for finding him fit for the award, Samuel Okon said the award will spur him up for greater performances, while the representative of Mfon Udoh, Ofonmbuk Udoh thanked the entire “Sports Fair” crew for the honour.
Also speaking was Samuel Okon’s manager, Mr. Fredick Akpaidem who dedicated the award to the good people and fans of his client.
