Commissioner of Transports, Hon. Godwin Ntuk Udeh with NAAKIMS Worldwide President |
The health of the people is really the foundation upon which all their happiness and all their powers as a State depend. This is what the inhabitants of Mbiaya Uruan, in Uruan Local Government Area experienced last week when medical doctors under the umbrella of NAAKIMS (National Association of Akwa Ibom Medical Students) Worldwide stormed the serene community to give free medical treatment and counseling to the people. The program tagged “Free Medical & Surgical Outreach” was held at the Comprehensive Health Centre, Mbiaya Uruan, it was a 3 – day medical outreach in which the people were treated of various ailments ranging from malaria, typhoid amongst others. Various tests were conducted ranging from opthamology, blood-sugar, urinalysis, high blood pressure tests and more others.
This free medical treatment was sponsored by the Commissioner of Transport, Hon. Prince Godwin Ntuk Udeh in partnership with NAAKIMS Worldwide, to bring succor to his people. According to one of the beneficiaries, he said “this is the first time anything like this is happening in the community and I am grateful to God in giving us a commissioner willed with the milk of human kindness”. In the course of the program, eight minor surgeries were done on the affected persons and over 200 people were treated.
It was a laudable gesture in which the Hon. Ntuk Udeh was filled with emotions, in seeing his people attaining good health. He said “the money I gave for the free medical programme is enough to buy a car, but instead I am happier to see my people in good health and this gives me great joy. It is not possible for one to do this alone, you can only stretch your hand within your limits to satisfy your conscience and when this is done, it is my wish that other illustrious sons & daughters of Uruan will also do more”. The Hon. Commissioner gave thanks to God for using him to carry out such project and hoped to make it a yearly event in the community.
The President, NAAKIMS Worldwide, Emmanuel Joseph Etim, said that the Association was very happy to partner with the Honourable Commissioner to actualize this feat; in his words “this is the first time NAAKIMS worldwide will conduct a free medical outreach and surgeries were carried out”. The President was so grateful that the outreach was a success.
Those patients, whose cases were beyond the available facilities of the outreach, were given referrals, for proper and intensive treatment.
