He said it the believe of the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel that Akwa United must not be the same again, adding that the governor who is a sports-loving person has approved so many things to see to it that Akwa United will go higher next season.

Uko maintained that the governor through the Ministry of Youth and Sports in conjunction with the management of Akwa United has directed that the team scout for players where ever they may be and bring them to the club as well as make sure that the team will stand greater ahead of the challenges in the continental competition.

“We have also decided that the technical crew be looked into and there is nothing like witch-hunting. The reason is that we need results. We are not saying that the past technical crew did not have the capability of giving us results. Everything has tenure and time, and until you allow another person to perform a certain function, you never can improve on what you were doing. I want to appeal to all the stakeholders to see the decision taken by the State Government as a step to give us more results. We are not changing the former coach because he did anything wrong, but it was a decision of the State to do some changes for the overall result of what we are pursuing in future.” He noted.

The sports commissioner further said that the State Government in conjunction with the management of Akwa United after due consultations decided to bring Coach Maurice Coreman to head the technical crew of the team for the next two years.

He used the opportunity to thank the out-going Management and Technical Crew members of the team who work tirelessly to ensure that the team win the Federation Cup as well as qualified for the Continental competition. He thanked all the sports stakeholders in the State for the supports given to Akwa United during and after the last football season even as he solicited for prayers for the new technical crew.
