Over Forty Years after Creation: Community in Okobo LGA gets Govt presence
Village council rejects plan to rename road after Udom

The people of Uruting, Oyede and Offi communities in Okobo local government area say they will forever remain loyal dedicated and supportive of the leadership of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel even beyond 2019.

They stated his over the weekend when they spoke with newsmen on what they described as the giantic and marvelous services the state Government have offered to them. The people maintained that for over forty years the villages have been in existence that subsequent Governments have always paid deaf ears and blind eyes to their predicaments but that just a little above two years of Udom’s administration, the area have witnessed two massive state Government presence which are the FEyreP farm and the award of contract for remedial work and intervention on Uruting-Oyede-offi road where work has proceeded on an advanced stage.

Briefing newsmen on the level of work done on the road, Chief Jerry Okpo the MD/CEO of Timaris Nigeria limited who is the contractor in charge of the project informed that the plan of Government was to fix the bridge and make the road accessible and motorable.

He acknowledged that in the course of the work the company ran into hitches that were never envisaged especially as it ran into shrines and swampy areas which needed to be brought down and refilled respectively for a thorough work process to be achieved.

Okpo acknowledged that over One Hundred million naira have been invested on the 3km road by government in order to bring it back to life and added also that his company Timaris Nigeria Limited shall endeavour that it works hard on that road to justify the financial investment of Government on the infrastructure.

Explaining why Government’s intervention was necessary Okpo who is a foremost community leader said, the bad nature of that road did not allow for passage of cars or any other vehicle other than motor-bikes and bicycles’. He added that the Feyrep team was so embarrassed when they came to their farm and discovered there was no road.

Corroborating Okpo’s statement the site contractor Jahson said also that an ugly incidence once occurred on that road when a village head of one of the communities once slipped and fell inside the river but was lucky to have been saved by community youths who were swimming in the River.

They echoed that these are some ugly trends that occurred on the road and that when the incidences were taken to the notice of the Governor, the State Chief Executive swung into action and awarded a contract worth over a hundred million naira to Timaris Nigeria Limited through the Ministry of Housing and special Duties superintended over by Mr. Akan Okon to fix the road applying serious remedial measures to bring the road to a motorable condition.

While leading the permanent secretary of the Ministry Engr. Efiakedoho and other directors to the site of the road construction on an inspection tour, the commissioner for Housing and special Duties Mr. Akan Okon was full of compliments for Jerry Okpo and his Timaris Nig Ltd company for what he describe as a nice and sincere work done.

Okon after listening to the intervention model adopted to work on the road by the contractors had sought some explanations on areas he needed clarifications and then expressed satisfaction saying Governor Udom Emmanuel did not make a mistake in chosing Timaris Nig Limited to handle the intervention Job.

Speaking to newsmen the commissioner noted that with the nature of work done on the road he is satisfied and optimistic that upon completion Government would have derived full satisfaction on her investment. The commissioner explained that from what he has seen on ground, he will take the message back to the Governor where further action would be taken.

Speaking on the amount of money invested on the road and how satisfied he is with the speed of work done, Okon said, he is quite satisfied. He commended Jerry Okpo for what he described as Okpo’s diligence in handling the Job and also praised the youths of the area for not disrupting activities of the contractors.

The commissioner who was received amidst pomp and pageantry by the youths used the opportunity to preach the gospel of Udom 2019 and the youths in turn gladly promised to ensure that the state Governor wins in a landslide by the coming gubernatorial election.

The youth leader of the community Tosker Joseph Eyo described the intervention by the Ministry of Special Duties as a glorious benefit to his community and promised to mobilize other youths in the communities to support and work for the emergence of Udom Emmanuel for a second term. He was full of praises for the commissioner and members of his team as well as the contractor with members of his team.

The councilor representing the Ward in Okobo legislative council Hon Edet Olughu also spoke.

He made a comparison between the road then and now and said events unfolding are a proof that Governor Udom Emmanuel is a listening and working Chief Executive who understands the yearnings of his people. The young legislator promised to rally support for the second term bid of the state Governor.

Immediate transition chairman of the Area Mr. Godwin Ita Ben also speaking described Udom Emmanuel’s Leadership as an excellent one which is God fearing and people orientated.
