Akwa Ibom Youth Sports Festival: ONNA Chairman eyes top position

The second edition of Akwa Ibom Youth Sports Festival slated for this month is expected to carry momentum as adequate arrangements have been put in place for the smooth takeoff of the competition.

The Executive Chairman of ONNA Local Government Area, Hon Imo Attat has pledged so much confidence that his Local Government area will win the overall trophy and 10 million naira at the end of the exercise.

Attat told our sports reporter in Uyo recently that he has conluded arrangement to contact competent coaches in various sports that will be competed for during the festival, stressing that preparations have commenced in full force. The Council Helmsman who is the Former President of ONNA All Stars Football Club and currently, President of Akwa Ibom All Stars Formations, believed that with his experience in sports development in the state, he will encourage schools to, not only participate but win many laurels for his area.


According to him, “I cannot close my eyes and allow other local government areas to win me in this festival in sports like football, athletics, Darts and other sports that I know it attract many medals”.

He further disclosed, “ from this week, I am going to provide necessary logistics to ensure effective training by athletes, let me assure my people that we will do our best to give our representatives in all sports good treatment that will boost their performance” He used the medium to commend Governor Udom Emanuel for the sponsorship of the sports fiesta, noting that the competition will help to discover young and hidden talents for the state and national.


He said, “ Governor Udom is a sports loving Governor, in his tenure, Akwa United are performing well, wining Federation cup in 2015 and the maiden edition of AITEO cup in 2017, the state contingent at national Youth Games in Ilorin for the past years have also done well, sports centres at various locations in the state, you can name his achievements in sports and other s3ctors, so we need to reciprocate this gesture by taking effective part in the festival”.

While commending the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Monday Uko and other sports stakeholders in the state for putting up the yearly youth festival, urged the Governor to run for second term so as to achieve his set targets for the youths of the state.
