The Commissioner for
Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah has charged the Professional
Association of Public Health Nursing Officers of Nigeria (PAPHNON) to be
diligent and committed in rendering health care services in view of their
critical role in the health care system.
Mr. Aniekan Umanah
gave the charge during a courtesy visit by the Professional Association of
Public Health Nursing Officers of Nigeria (PAPHNON) Akwa Ibom State Chapter,
recently at Ministry of Information and Communications, in Uyo.
Congratulating the
association on their forthcoming 28th Annual National Conference of
the Professional Association of Public Health Nursing Officers of Nigeria
(PAPHNON) which is scheduled to hold in Uyo from the 17th-
21st October, 2016, Umanah, pledged the ministry’s readiness to
assist the association in its area of strength and wish them success.
Umanah who noted
that effective delivery of health care services requires commitment and
passion, however commended Public Health Nurses for their dexterity in managing
the recovery process of patients, calling on them to tutor younger ones to
maintain the standard.
The information boss
urged the association to support the state government’s efforts in growing
health care sector saying “Governor Udom Emmanuel has shown quite a lot of
commitment in ensuring that he transforms the health sector”.
He explained that,
the state government has rehabilitated the Saint Luke’s Hospital, Anua, the
intervention at General Hospital Etinan, and General Hospital at Ikot Okoro,
where Governor Udom made an express pronouncement to build the hospitals to
specified standard.
Earlier, the
Secretary of the Association, Mrs. Enobong Okoko, who led the delegation,
informed the Commissioner of the 28th Annual National Conference and
solicited for assistance of the Ministry of Information and Communications in
areas of publicity and awareness creation about the conference.
Mrs. Okoko also
informed the Ministry of the mission of the association which includes leading
other professionals to render community health services, while maintaining
qualitative, efficient, meaningful, affordable, accessible and acceptable
healthcare services in response to potential needs of individuals, families and
communities at large.
Present at the
courtesy visit were the permanent secretary, Pastor Praise Okon, directors,
zonal directors and heads of departments in the ministry, among others.
