Save Our Lives, Ikot Ekpene Timber Dealers cry out

The Timber Dealers Association, Ikot Ekpene Timber Market I, Utu Edem Usung, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area have sent a save-our-life message to the state government to rescue them from gully erosion menace that is paralyzing the business activities in the market. 

Already, the erosion has destroyed goods and properties worth millions of naira.

Conducting our reporters round the erosion site, the president of the Association Elder Amos Jackson Udo said the gully erosion is caused by channeling of water from Ikot Ekpene –Abak Road to ravine in the area by a construction company.

According to Elder Udo the situation was not always like this last year noted that it will destroy a large section of the market if not given immediately attention adding that, the erosion which had destroyed many business premises is beyond what the association can contain appealing to the state government to address the issue.

“It was not like this last year, the situation this year is worsen, if not properly checked, the entire market will be destroyed during the next year rainy season. It is scary; we cannot do anything about it because we are helpless”.

The business mogul thanked the state government led by Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the loan facilities giving to Akwa Ibom State Timber Dealers Association even though their members are not able to access the facilities due to unfriendly policy by the active point microfinance bank but believing that the state government will look into the matter and find a lasting solution as soon as possible.

He commended the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for the laudable projects he has initiated in the state and called on the stakeholders in the business industries to key into the dakkada philosophy of the state governor to enable him lift the state to an enviable height.
