Akan Okon lands in trouble

This is actually not the best of times for some commissioners in the Udom Emmanuel administration. This is because they are swimming from one trouble to the other. THE INK understands.

The latest person is the Finance commissioner Mr Akan Okon who has been accused by Ibom Conscience Group as being a distraction and possessing unnecessary over bearing influence that may lead to the Governor’s downfall in the 2019 governorship elections.

A release from the group signed by Elder Bassey Ikang, National Chairman and Mr. Fidelis Ekwere Secretary General described Akan Okon as being unpatriotic in his services to Mr Udom Emanuel. The release also accuses the Finance Commissioner of being bossy and creating a strain in the relationship between his predecessor now Senator Obong Bassey Albert and the state Governor Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel.

Akan Okon is a traitor – Group


A group working for the former governor of the state, Senator Godswill Akpabio going by the name, Akwa Ibom Conscience for Good Governance has opened a can of worms against the Honourable Commissioner for Finance,, Mr. Akan Okon, accusing him of being behind the current travail of the former governor.
 
The group in an on-line document sent to THE INK reporter and jointly signed by Chief Effiong Udo Ukpong and Barr Nelson Akpadiaha, President and Secretary respectively came down heavily on the Itu born Banker cum political man, describing him as a blind traitor who bites the fingers that fed him.

According to the document, “there is nothing hidden under the sun.  Mr. Akan Okon releasing documents of the past administration to APC agents in order to prosecute Senator Godswill Akpabio and thereby causing unnecessary disaffection between Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Godswill Akpabio cannot in any way fly.  Whatever must have been your intentions, Mr. Akan Okon, you have failed and shall continue to fail.”

Ekerete Udo set to quit Bachelorhood

The Senior Special Adviser and Chief Press Secretary to Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel Mr. Ekerete Udo is set to quit bachelorhood about the middle of the month.
 
Impeccable sources told THE INK newspaper that arrangements are in top gear for the solemnization of the holy matrimony between the CPS and his heart throb.

Although the governor’s spokesman refused to make comments on this, Government House sources told THE INK last Saturday that a protocol list has been drawn by Udom’s spokesman on personalities that are billed for the event.

It was learnt that September 17 have been proposed for the big event which will likely take place in Eket Local Government Area.

Details on the lucky bride were not disclosed but our reporter understands that the Mrs. Ekerete Udoh in waiting is an overseas trained ICT expert who is average in height and good looking.

If Governor Udom Emmanuel were to apply his power where mouth is then Dr Iniobong Essien, the current commissioner for environment should be on his way out of government and back to his medical practice if the recent call for his removal is anything to go by.
 
The Hon. Commissioner has come to be in the eye of the storm recently ever since he started the plot to downsize the ministry’s casual work force.
 
The Block housing the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources in the state secretariat came under siege throughout last week as angry mobs of frustrated workers took over the entire premises threatening they were going to set the block on fire. The mammoth crowds of protesters which were made up of mostly women an youths (males and females) took over the entrance of the ministry and other entry points saying they would not go home nor give way until their demands were made by the commissioner. 

These are the field workers employed by the Green Brigade, an initiative of the wife of the former governor, Mrs. Unoma Akpabio. They include road sweepers, drainage and refuse evacuators.

Governor Udom  Gabriel Emmanuel may be the authentic Governor of Akwa Ibom State but his aides and associates as well as some commissioners are bent on making him just a figure head of this administration. THE INK understands that some of the Special Assistants appointed by Deacon Udom Emmanuel are not working for the interest of the present administration; rather they are currently working for the interest of their masters who either recommended them to the governor for their appointment or banking on a promise to promote them when they eventually emerges the Governor of Akwa Ibom State after the present Chief Executive.

Investigations by this reporter reveal that the Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade and Market Matters, Mr. Idorenyin Raphael is pretending to be working and promoting the programmes of the State government when in actual sense, he is busy campaigning for the actualization of the 2023 governorship ambition of his master, the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akan Okon.

Greedy grand-pa: Moses Ekpo pockets N250million monthly * As security vote

 More and more shocking revelations are emerging about the sincerity of the Udom Emmanuel administration. THE INK newspaper can report authoritatively that Governor Emmanuel and his deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo are conniving to run the state aground.

Investigations by the paper reveal for example that the state deputy governor Mr. Moses Ekpo goes home with a whopping N250million every month as security vote.

Impeccable sources at the office of the No.2 man in the state shows that the old man has continued to receive this sum ever since they were sworn- in in May 2015 even when he cannot point to any tangible thing done with the money.

Media Practitioners Charged To Project the State's Corporate Image



The State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akan Okon has admonished Journalists in the State to see themselves as patriots with equal stake in the State's development by writing reports that positively projects its corporate image.

 The Commissioner made the appeal in Uyo  when he received the executive members of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) who called on him on Wednesday.

 Okon frowned at some of the negative media reports that paints gloomy picture of the state, noting that every society has its problems which he said are surmountable and as such focus should be less on what he termed adversarial reportage that may hamper the socio-economic advancement of the State.

INFORMATION BOSS CHARGES PUBLIC HEALTH NURSES ON HEALTH SERVICES



The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah has charged the Professional Association of Public Health Nursing Officers of Nigeria (PAPHNON) to be diligent and committed in rendering health care services in view of their critical role in the health care system.
 
Mr. Aniekan Umanah gave the charge during a courtesy visit by the Professional Association of Public Health Nursing Officers of Nigeria (PAPHNON) Akwa Ibom State Chapter, recently at Ministry of Information and Communications, in Uyo.

Congratulating the association on their forthcoming 28th Annual National Conference of the Professional Association of Public Health Nursing Officers of Nigeria (PAPHNON) which is scheduled to hold in Uyo from    the 17th- 21st October, 2016, Umanah, pledged the ministry’s readiness to assist the association in its area of strength and wish them success.

AKSG TO EQUIP TECHNICAL SCHOOLS BY OFONIME UDOTU



The State Government has reiterated its commitment towards the provision of sound technical education to the citizenry to manpower demands of various sectors of the society.

The Commissioner for Education, Elder Aniekan Akpan who gave this assurance while receiving the 2014/2015 report from the State Technical Schools Board said Technical Colleges in the State are to be fully equipped with qualified teachers and equipments to enable the institutions meet up their academic role to the youths.

Elder Akpan said Government has so far streamlined programmes and courses in technical schools to be part with modern trends.

ENCOURAGING UDOM/MOSES UNDER-20 VICTORY FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT

On Monday, 5th September, 2016, people from all works of life thronged Church of Jesus Christ Comprehensive Secondary School, Atai Otoro in Abak Local Government Area for the opening Ceremony of the Udom/Moses Under 20 Victory Football Tournament.

The tournament which began with a colourful opening ceremony featured March pass by participating teams, Socio political/Cultural organizations, Youth and Women groups, Cultural displays such as Ekpo masquerade, Utu-ekpe, Abiaokpo, Abon among others.

It would be recalled that the State Chapter of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) having seen the pair of Mr. Udom Emmanuel and Mr. Moses Ekpo as the best choice for Akwa Ibom people, instituted a football tournament early last year to mobilize support for the Peoples Democratic Party Governorship flay- bearer. 48 youth teams from the 31 local government areas of the State participation in the tournament then known as Udom/ Moses mobilization Football Tournament.
