The second term ambition of the member
representing Uruan State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of
Assembly, Obong Kufreabasi Etuk was further boosted over the weekend
when the eighteen chapter executive officers, eleven ward chairmen and
ward officers of the Peoples Democratic Party gave a thumb up to his
second term ambition.
The event was witnessed by a crowd that thronged the chapter secretariat of the party along Nwaniba, Idu-Uruan to give the lawmaker a rousing welcome.
Addressing the party officers and faithful, Obong KufreAbasi Etuk commended the party for giving him the mandate to serve in his first term, saying, as a loyal servant, when PDP and the entire people of Uruan gave him a mandate, he did not fail them but had worked assiduously to accomplish the assignment he was sent and promised to carry out more assignments of the party in his second term.
He expressed optimism that he speaks as a candidate of the party in the forthcoming election, noting that there is no vacancy in the constituency seat.
Obong Etuk said that his vocal stand on issues relating to the development of Uruan in the hallowed chambers is because his constituents have given him the mandate to speak for them. “I am in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to make the voice of Uruan people heard.”
He pleaded with his people to support PDP and the present government in the state to a successful end.
Speaking while presenting Hon. Kufre Etuk to the chapters/ wards officers of the party, the Chairman, Southern Uruan Development Union, Hon. Effiong Thompson- himself an ex-officer of the party- said they were at the secretariat to officially consult the party over the lawmaker’s second term bid, which he said will continue giving Uruan effective and robust representation.
He made reference to the history of the party in Uruan and noted that the decision to support Hon. Etuk is also in line with the party’s objective enshrined in Section 7 sub Section 2 of the PDP which states that, “For the purpose of equity, justice and fairness, the party shall apply the objective of rotation and zoning.”
While appealing for the construction of a permanent secretariat of the party in Uruan, Hon. Thompson stressed that since the North, through Usenobong Akpabio had taken their turn of second term in the hallowed chambers, it was justice, equity and fairness for the south through Hon. KufreAbasi Etuk to complete a second term without any interference from any zone so as to give way for the Central Zone in 2019.
Responding, the Chapter Chairman of PDP in Uruan, Prince Edinyanga Atakpo lauded the achievements of Hon. Etuk in the past three years, saying that with Etuk in the Assembly, Uruan voice has been heard. He thanked Hon. Etuk for always having the party in mind and for being the first to consult them.
While urging the lawmaker not to panic, Prince Atakpo said the party would provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the lawmaker to the party executive by members of his campaign team.
