Ibiono Ibom students honour Ime Okon for Education Development 

IMMENSE contributions of the ember representing Ibiono Ibom in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; Rt Hon (Barr) Ime Okon, to the development of education in his constituency and beyond over the years, have been commended. 

The commendation came Monday, from the leadership of National Association of Ibiono Ibom Students (NAIBS) Worldwide while presenting an award of honour to the lawmaker at his abode.

Describing Barr Okon as the “burden bearer of Ibiono Ibom Students”,  the Worldwide President of NAIBS, Comrade Nathaniel Ukpoho, highlighted the impressive role of the lawmaker in taking the burden of sponsoring a good number of indigent Ibiono Ibom students away from parents and guardians, saying the gesture has not gone unnoticed within and outside the State.

“We are so privileged to have a rare politician like you who takes delight in solving the educational challenges through sponsorship of innumerable number of Ibiono Ibom students in higher and tertiary institutions. Sir, you have done this from your first day in office and you are not tired of this humanitarian act eight years after. May God bless and reward you and we pray that God Almighty should give you other platforms so that you can continue serving humanity”, he said.

Recall that the lawmaker has set the pace in education development in the area by giving his constituents the best gift of life. This, he has done since 2012 by rewarding brilliant pupils and students who have excelled in their academic pursuits.

Comrade Ukpoho used the occasion and called on other well to do individuals in the area to join hands to raise the standard of education in Ibiono Ibom and Akwa Ibom by extension.

In a brief remark after receiving the award, Rt Hon Ime Okon, who is the Deputy Leader in the State House of Assembly, thanked National Association of Ibiono Ibom Students (NAIBS) Worldwide, for finding him worthy of the honour, saying,  “I take this honour as a challenge and I will ensure that I do my best for my people wherever I find myself”, attracting reverberating applause from the students.

The Assemblyman added that it was heart warming to know that “little things” he was doing behind the cameras to support his people were being noticed by the public.

Okon who dedicated the award to Governor Udom Emmanuel for his massive investment in the education sector evidenced in the free and compulsory education programme in the State, thanked Ibiono Ibom Students for their support to the governor as clearly shown during the just concluded general elections.

While assuring that the ‘Completion Agenda’ of Governor Emmanuel will promote the wellbeing of people from all walks of life in the State, Barr Ime Okon advised all stakeholders to embrace peace now that the elections are over to pave way for socio-economic development.
Meanwhile other student leaders who witnessed the brief ceremony were Comrade Edifon Okon, Vice President 1 and Comrade Ukeme Yukay Tom, Vice President 2. 
The team also had Comrade Blessing Umoren, Secretary, and Comrade Kufre Udo, Director of socials, Comrade Lydia Friday Sunday as well as the councillor representing Ibiono Ibom Ward 10, Hon Mandu Eduese amongst others.
