TOIS mark 5th Inter-House Sports Festival in style

Tower of Ivory Schools, Ediene- Abak, Akwa Ibom State has held its 5th Inter-House Sports Festival with the theme “The Discovery of Champions’’ (Season One). The colourful outing held last Saturday in the school compound as guests and sports’ lovers turned out in their large numbers to share in the momentous occasion.

  The event was well attended and had all the trappings of a top notch ceremony with the students treating guests to captivating performances, calisthenics and lots more. The Special Guest of Honour and Commissioner for Education, Elder Aniekan Akpan was represented by the Director in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Anthony Asuquo.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman on the occasion, Rear Admiral Uduak Essien, while thanking the School management for putting up the Inter-House competition, stressed the need for the revival of sports in schools, an exercise he noted has lied dormant in recent times. “Let today’s event serve as a springboard for the revival of schools’ sports across the state and beyond. I thank all of you for your patience and I pray God to bless you all for coming.’’
In his remark at the sports fiesta, the Education Commissioner, noted that the Ministry of Sports is in total support of sporting activities in schools. “Coming together like this helps us to discover and identify talents that will take the world by storm in the nearest future.’’ He added that Tower of Ivory Schools has been a partner in progress while urging all to rise to the faith of greatness in line with the dakkada creed of the current administration.

The event also featured variety of dance as the students; both senior and the elementary sections thrilled guests to various dance steps hat added spice and grace to the exercise. They left guests nodding their heads in amazement while others tapped their feet in admiration.

Top Faith School, Mkpatak, led other visiting schools to the event. Their presence added vim and vitality to the sports fest.

The elementary pupils were not left out of the action as they did their bit in the events and competitions that was exclusive to them. They showed class, passion and emotion in the events they partook in. Some of them, pained after being defeated, wouldn’t hold back emotions as tears flowed freely from their innocent eyes. It was a moving scene.

In his speech at the occasion, the Chairman, Board of Directors, Tower of Ivory Schools, DIG Udom U. Ekpoudom (RtD), expressed joy over the massive turn out and the colourful presentations by the students while reassuring parents that they made no mistake in choosing TOIS for their children. He remarked that Tower of Ivory Schools is not only top in academics but also in sports as demonstrated by the day’s outing. He noted that the future of sports is bright as far as the school is concerned even as he urged parents to keep bringing their children to TOIS as they won’t have any reason to regret doing so.

There was also another angle to the event as staff of the school and parents; (both male and female) took their turns in the track. It was riddled with comical scenes but deeply engaging. In the male staff category, Mr. Kufre Moses scooped the first position while Blessing Effiong had the better of her counterparts in the female staff category.

In the parents’ category, (Male), Mr. Noah Uduak won the first position.
In other competitions like march-past, (Secondary Schools), Ayakeme House came first while Ebong and Kufre Houses came second and third respectively.
In the overall standings, Kufre House (Blue colour) went home with the top prize while Ayakeme House (Yellow colour) came second. It was third and fourth place finish for Ebong and Enomfon Houses respectively. 

Some of the events that were competed for include: High Jump, Athletics, Football, volleyball, Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Chess, Javelin, Long Jump, Discuss and lots more. 

Some of the dignitaries who graced the occasion include: Coordinator of Schools, Lady Dorothy U. Ekpoudo; Mr. Uchenna Enyia, Principal; Hon. Etido Ibekwe, former Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly amongst others.
