The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Lands and Town planning Arch. Uwem Ita Etuk and his fellow Ibesikpo Asutan kinsman recently took a swipe at the state Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel saying that seven months into his administration, the Governor is yet to take charge especially as matters relating to the State House of Assembly are concerned.
The duo has however vowed to capitalize on the inability of the Governor to take charge of the state by ensuring that they take over the control of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. This position was made known by the two men recently during a campaign trend for the return of Aniekan Uko to the state House of Assembly at Asutan ward two held at the residence of Ime Asuquo Etim the ward chairman of the PDP at Ikot Nkim Ibesikpo Asutan LGA.
Speaking during the consultation, the former Chairman of the PDP Mr. Uwem Ita Etuk called on the people of the area to join hands in supporting Mr. Aniekan Uko to return to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. He maintained that if Uko returns to the Assembly that the Ibesikpo man will take over his position as the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
Also speaking, the State Accountant General Lynus Nkan corroborated the position of the Lands and Town planning commissioner. Nkan also added that as the state Accountant General he is ready to ensure that he uses the funds from the state Government to ensure that Aniekan Uko does not only win but return to the House of Assembly as the Speaker of the State legislative Chambers.
Nkan added that he is aware also that the state Governor Mr. Udom Emmanuel is yet to fully take charge of his Government seven months after swearing in and that now is the time for the people of Ibesikpo Asutan to come together and exploit that weakness from the Governor by ensuring that Aniekan Uko wins and returns to the Assembly as the Speaker of the Legislative Chambers of the sixth Assembly.
The Accountant General of the state is said to have referred to Onofiok Luke as the acting Speaker of the House of Assembly who will vacate the seat once Aniekan Uko returns. He called on the people to please rally support for the former Speaker so that Uko will return as Speaker after according to him, he must have worked Onofiok Luke out of the Speakership position of the Assembly. The AG stated further amidst cheers that he may not be a politician but that he knows the people he will reach out to and ensure that Onofiok Luke loses his seat to Aniekan Uko whom he said will do the biddings of the people of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
He called on the people to look very well and support Uko’s mission to the Udo Udoma House as the Speaker since the position is lucrative enough to attract development to the Area. He promised to use all the means available to him and work towards a post- Onofiok Luke Speakership of the House of Assembly.
But this position from the Ibesikpo two has attracted more criticisms than commendations as members of the Assembly who are in the know of these comments have risen against the duo. Some members who volunteered information to our reporter described Uwem Ita Etuk and Nkan as mere interlopers who know nothing about the workings of the legislature. They however warned that if Nkan and Uwem Ita Etuk don’t watch their actions, they will be left with no other option than to seek their ouster from the services of the Akwa Ibom State Government.
A member of the House of Assembly from Oro nation who spoke to THE INK reporter last night said, it is unfortunate for the duo to begin to assume that they can decide who leads the sixth Assembly. Our source added also that even if the court did not sack Aniekan Uko, the former Speaker would not have survived impeachment by December 2015. He said, the plot to sack Uko was perfected by new members of the House and it was only Friday Iwok and Victor Udofia as ranking members of the Assembly that knew about the plot to impeach Uko.
Other members of Assembly who spoke with our reporter said, it is unfortunate for Uwem Ita Etuk and Nkan to plot such against the Speaker Onofiok Luke. They however warned that Aniekan Uko will remain an ordinary member of the House and any attempt by Uwem Ita Etuk and Lynus Nkan to foist Uko on them if Aniekan Uko wins a re-run will be seriously resisted. The Assemblymen also called on Governor Emmanuel to call his men to order or be ready to face them. “We do not want any distraction in this Assembly; we are okay with Onofiok Luke as our Speaker”. Legislators warned.
