Afaha Youths call for speedy completion of East West road

The Ekid Chapter of Afaha Youths Association has called on the Federal Government to ensure to the speedy completion of the East West Road during this dry season.

The call was made during the group’s courtesy visit to the Paramount Ruler of Eket, HRM Edidem Etim Charles Abia in his palace recently. 

Speaking, the Ekid Chapter Chairman of the group, Elder victor Okon Edukere said the Eket section of the road handled by Gitto Construction Company is not done according to contract specification, while demanding that the road should be dualized for justice and equity. 
“The Eket axis of the East West Road is a cheat on the people and it must be done to specification” Mr. Edukere said. 

He called on Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State to give priority to the execution and completion of Eket – Ibeno Road. 

In his address to the Paramount Ruler of Eket, the National President of Afaha Youths, Abong Iwaad, Inyang Assam said the group has much to contribute by acting as a peaceful pressure group in partnership with Ekid People’s Union for progress and rapid development of the area.

He congratulated the newly elected Paramount Ruler and described him as a worthy father whose reign will bring about peace and progress because of his experience and pedigree in public and private life. 

The national President said poverty is ravaging the land and that some youths have fallen victims in the hands of some selfish politicians due to unemployment, adding that industrialization of the State was the only answer to the problem of unemployment.

Present during the Visit were Dr. A.S Okomo, Prince Koffi Itiat, Deaconess Adiaha Okon Nkwo, Obongawan Glory Udo Charles, Bishop Akpadiaha Matthew and Engr. Nsini Eduok among others.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a souvenir to the Paramount Ruler.
