Akwa Ibom varsity matriculates 32 per cent increase in 2015 session
The Akwa Ibom State  University (AKSU),  on Tuesday matriculated 32 per cent increase out of the 1,253 students matriculated during the 4th matriculation ceremony last year.
 
The Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Prof. Eno Ibanga gave the remarks at the occasion of the 5th Matriculation Ceremony at Ikot Akpaden in Mkpat Enin, Akwa Ibom.
 
Ibanga said that a total of 1,648 students had been cleared for matriculation into the various degree programmes of the University during the academic session.
 “About 5,000 students chose AKSU in 2014/2015 UTME out of which 2,143 students were admitted.
“A total of 1,648 students matriculate into the various degree programmes of the institution. 
 
“This is about 32 per cent increase from the 1,253 students that matriculated during the 4th ceremony in Aug. 2014,’’ Ibanga said.
He commended the Management of the school and students for their supports to the institution, saying the working relationship between the institution and students was cordial.
 
“In Akwa Ibom State University, our main aim is to provide students with the best education possible, preparing them to compete in the 21st century global economy.
 
“And think critical about how they can help make the world a better place,’’ he said.
 
Ibanga said that institution was committed to expand the frontiers of knowledge to enable students and faculty to solve the problems of the institution.
 
He added that the institution was collaborating with the across disciplines for the greater good of the University, the State and Nigeria in general.
The Vice Chancellor urged students to focus on academic quest while charging them not to allow peer pressure to influence or distract their attention from academic work.
 
According to him, peer pressure influence could lead to counter-productive.
Ibanga said that the institution had zero tolerance for any form of misconduct on campus.
 
He advised the students to shun all forms of criminality such as cultism, stealing, cheating, forgery, examination misconduct among others.
Ibanga noted that the University had put in place Rules and Regulations to guide the students on campus.
