Is APC an Ogbanje?

Is APC an Ogbanje?
BY OFONIME HONESTY

Nigeria is a very weird country. She thrives on absurdities. Her citizens are prolific actors of horror movies of life. Via their actions and inactions, they invariably cross the rubicon of common sense and continue basking in the euphoria of collective stupidity. If we are under spell or curse, why is it practically impossible for us to produce genuine spell breakers and curse removers?

Isn’t this mysterious? When we think that we have crawled out of the valley of foolishness and barbarism, we only wake up to see the harsh reality staring frighteningly at us. What a nightmarish life we are living! And few months ago, did we not roll out drums and celebrate crazily when we seemingly mustered courage to bell those we deemed as polity polluting cats? Yes, after previous failed attempts we succeeded in hanging bells on the necks of the big cats in PDP. We thought that we had finally pushed them into the realm of unconsciousness and political irrelevance. Ouch! We were seemingly wrong. Now, look around and tell me what you see. The cats we knew in PDP are now full fledged lions. Yes, they are still hanging bells on their necks but they are back in business with all amount of ferocity. They hang those bells with swagger and gusto. They are invariably telling us that the bells are motivating them to be more determined in their lunatic mission of making us uncomfortable.

Imagine the effrontery! And why are they gaining grounds quickly? Since losing the general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party has seemingly put its house in order. Yes, they are now an opposition party but is it not said that ‘a united minority can defeat a divided majority?’ Well, these PDP guys have a very potent weapon called ‘collaboration.’ All Progressives Congress is populated by fake born again politicians. They are like virgins with prolific history of abortion. They have polluted APC. Having realized that the PDP ship was destined to sink in Nigeria’s turbulent political waters, they decamped and joined poor Nigerians in screaming ‘Change.’ They did not even care to show remorse or apologize for their misdoings while in PDP. We accepted them. And now, are they not showing their true colours again?

Dear readers, when your neighbour eats dangerous insects during the day, try and persuade him to discontinue with his inedible diet, else his coughing fits will not allow you sleep comfortably at night. It is glaring that APC swallowed so many political insects, political scorpions, political serpents and political chameleons. Every sinning Tom, Dick and Harry were welcomed and given another platform to further their filthy political careers. Look at APC. Haven’t you seen an ambassador of Sharia and prolific child abuser in the mould of Ahmed Yerima? He claims that Sharia Law is above the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Also, Yerima once boasted that not even the constitution of the federation can barr him from marrying kids. Also, haven’t you seen an acclaimed terror chief in the person of Ali Ndume. How about those with tags of corruption imprinted on their foreheads?

On Ali Ndume, haven’t you heard that this man is the new Majority Leader in the Senate? Majority Leader my foot! The APC leadership wanted Ahmed Lawan for the role but Senators defied that order to appoint Ndume, who is yet to convince Nigerians that he has no hands in the Boko Haram madness. And why are men with questionable characters always honoured with lucrative positions in this country?

Dear readers, did you not also see how a certain BukolaSaraki defied APC’s order by contesting and winning the Senate presidency? With few loyal APC colleagues and friends in PDP, Bukola pooh-poohed the party’s supremacy.  Is it not right to say that Saraki is PDP’s representative in APC?

At the House of Representatives, a similar script was being acted. A certain YakubuDogara with the support of PDP members defied party order by contesting and winning the Speakership position. He floored the ‘anointed’ candidate, Femi Gbajabiamila. And the punch-me-i-punch-you, which trailed their brouhaha has finally made us realize that these highest earning lawmakers in the world don’t really care about us.

From the foregoing, haven’t you seen that PDP versus APC is gradually becoming a game of conspiracy and betrayal? It is like a son conniving with a stranger to beat up his father. It is also akin to a rat conniving with a cat to plot, kill and eat another rat.

In all these, the focus is very much on APC. Sometimes, getting to the top is much easier than remaining there. Conversely, how shall it profit PDP to dismantle a government installed via the collective efforts of Nigerians? Would posterity forgive PDP?

And now the big question: Is APC an Ogbanje?  In Igbo language, Ogbanje means “children who come and go.”  They die prematurely causing grief to their families. Dear readers, Nigerians would be so much pained by the exit of APC because they laboured for it. But if APC is an Ogbanje, there is nothing we can do but to wait for the doomsday. If this party is not an Ogbanje, then evil plot or plots to terminate her life would come to naught. Futile. Unsuccessful.

I would like to end this short piece with this proverb: “A chick that will grow into a cock can be spotted the very day it hatches.” Dear readers, the fate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is interwoven or embedded in this adage. Deduce what you wish from it. I rest my case!
